How is your computer connected to the Syncmaster 23333? Is the computer on and sending a signal through the appropriate video output. Some laptops will disable their external video ports for power savings. You may need to enable the port using the laptop built-in screen. With most versions of Windows, right click on the desktop to find the Display properties. Desktops may have motherboard video outputs and a VGA card. The motherboard outputs will be disabled if the VGA card is active and vice versa. Make sure that your video cable is connected to an active port. Turn off the computer and monitor before moving the cables. Make sure that the monitor is on (even if sleeping) before turning on the computer. (This ensures that the computer will recognize the device.)
For most monitors, the PC Mode is the VGA port. If you have your computer connected with an HDMI video cable, the monitor will go to sleep (black screen) when no signal is received on the VGA port.
Please add a comment with more about your set-up for further ideas to get the monitor to work.

Check all the connections and if they are all right and tight then the monitor is probably shot. The good news is that it can be repaired. It's usually around $50.00 to $80.00 to fix. Good luck!

Hey!
Follow the instruction below to solve your problem:
Restart your computer and enter Safe Mode (press F8 right as the computer starts booting up. Choose Safe Mode in the menu, press Enter twice).
While in Safe Mode, open Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Vista/7) and uninstall the display driver software/drivers.
Restart your computer and boot normally. Now you should be able to see everything. Things might look bigger and uglier, that because there's no display driver installed. All you have to do now is reinstall the display driver. Use it's original disc or go to the manufacturer website and download the latest driver.
Good luck!
Pelu.

I just resolved this problem for my SyncMaster 913N.
It seems to be a known issue, however it can take quite some time for the problem to occur. In my case about 3,5 years, so well out of warranty.
Short term solution: unplug your monitor from power. The switch on the front is not good enough. Pull the plug and leave it for an hour or so (all night if you can). Good chance the monitor will work next time you power it up.
The problem will is likely to come back..
Permant fix requires some basic soldering as per this video:
I just managed it and it has been ages since I soldered a resistor so you may very well be able to do it. I spent $25 on tool and part and saved me from buying a new monitor.
