SOURCE: Can't get the surround sound to play the rear speakers and small front speaker
Sounds like it's just in 2 channel stereo mode, only 2 speakers working out of 5 and a sub, look for a selector switch for switching to 5.1 surround, as far as the no video problem try replacing the cable for the video connection.

SOURCE: Which external speakers work with an Emerson 19" LCD digital TV?
Coaxial digital output is not a speaker-level signal, and you don't connect speakers directly to it. It's an output signal meant to feed an amplifier which takes that kind of input. You then connect the speakers to the amp and select the digital input, the same as you connect a CD player and select that when you want play a disc.
