I have a drain pipe in the ground for a gutter but the pipe became buried in dirt. Would I be able to use a snake (auger) to unclog the drain pipe of the dirt?

Hi

There are so many ways and methods to unclog your drainpipe either you can use a snake auger if the dirt doesn't block inside your drain pipe. But in most cases, the plumber uses a power Jetter or rooter to eliminate those build-up dirt or soil. I'll show you a video for you to picture out on How to clear and fix blocked drains.

I hope this can answer your question thanks.

A power auger may work, not sure if you'd get it with a hand auger.

try running the snake from the top to the bottom. they ell pressure hose ends that you inser into the pipe on the end of a hose and when you turn the water on it weslls and applies pressure to push out whatever is in there. they cost about 8.00 and you can buy them at lowes or home depot. just tell them what you need and that it screws onto the end of a hose for unclogging backed up drains. im not sure whats its called but they will know

I have a mobile home single wide older 1978 snaked auger type 25 feet kitchen sink drain still clogged

I had this issue about 6 years ago and the big(3 1/2") black ABS has probably colisped somewhere therefore all that water/sewer cannot go through. My was underground , so I had to hire a backhoe to dig up and install new black pipe. Years ago contractors used a cheaper black pipe and it did not stand up. If your black pipe is good, then it will be plugged at a P trap somewhere or it may be near the join close to the town/city connection...Where or what water/sewer is not going through...If your bathroom goes through, then It will be your kitchen drain...If its your kitchen, then the P trap is plugged under your sink.Replace it under 20 bucks..and make sure its 1 1/2" in diameter...they may sell you 1 1/4 BUT don't use it...

The water in toilet bowl is low when flushed it sounds like glug glug glug and no water in bowl

Hello, Lori -

Your problem (and toilet sounds and water level) seems like one we often have. Something is clogging the toilet drain.

We have a powerful toilet plunger. You can see several styles here:
https://top10bestpro.com/best-toilet-plungers/
We try the plunger, more than once.

Plus, we have a toilet snake (auger) which is great (but messy) to unclog the drain. Ours is in the line from Rigid. We purchased it at the local hardware. Don't opt for a low price version.

Watch this YouTube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRhN2JkJlOo

When we have to use the auger, we have some old towels handy and a large plastic trash bag nearby. We wash the used auger off under the bathtub faucet and dry it off with the old towels. Then we place the clean and dried auger into the plastic bag so there will be minimum drips and stains.

Overflow draining to the sink

it's supposed to drain out the same drain pipe your sink uses. If it is overflowing into your sink, then your drain pipe is clogged. Your sink probably overflows when your disposal runs too, right? Unclog your pipe and you're good to go.

Sounds like your drain pipe is restricted or clogged. Try using a "Pipe Snake" to unclog.

Blockage Repair

Your focus indicates a sewer issue and not a drain issue.
The first challenge is to determine which branch leg of the sewer is the issue and then assess where all your access ports are. Sometimes an outside access port has been covered over by dirt/mulch etc.
If you know where the blockage is ... then as mentioned by other contributors ... you will need a snake. They can be hand driven or motor driven. For great access to the blockage you may need to remove the closest toilet, since snaking through the lower S trap of the toilet really inhibits the snake's effectiveness. Depending on how your house is built ... the roof sewer vent pipes can be a good access point (and sometimes that is where the debris has gotten into your sewer if you have overhanging trees). I have had success with running a garden house up to the roof and down through the vent pipe. You need to have a second person watching by the the toilet to make sure it does not back flow on to the floor. You can get hose spray attachments which help propel the hose and add turbulence to break the blockage ... but I have never tried them.
If your blockage is recurring over the seasons ... and if you have a number of trees close to your sewer line outside then you can have tree root intrusion into the sewer. In that case you need a professional with a special snake that actually has cutting capability to remove the roots.
Attached are 3 photos ... manual snake, motor snake, hose spray nozzle
Good luck with your troubleshooting!
