First make sure that the contents are MP3, JPEG, or Windows Media Audio (WMA) format. Plug in the USB device. Next press the USB/Disc input button on the remote (top left below the power button) or press the Source button (left side to the right of the fast forward/next button) on the main unit of the HTS6510 repeatedly until you select this source. Use the Up/Down buttons on the remote to navigate through the folder. Press OK to play a file. To enter a folder, after navigating to the folder name, press OK to enter that folder. Press the Up button to return to a previous folder. I'm not sure if you can do this without a remote.

This is shown in the manual. Look at pages 9-10 for the buttons on the main unit and the remote. See page 34 to see the section on using a USB source. The support page for the HTS6510/05 is https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/HTS6510_05/-/support . The current link to the manual is https://www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/h/hts6510_05/hts6510_05_dfu_eng.pdf .There is also the HTS 6510/12, https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/HTS6510_12/-/support . The user manual is currently here: https://www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/h/hts6510_12/hts6510_12_dfu_eng.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Philips hts6510 home theater system can not read USB drive

What is the format of the drive? The Philips HTS6510 can only read USB drives that are formatted as FAT16 or FAT32. It can't read files from an NTFS drive. NTFS is the "new file system" for Windows but dates to Windows NT/Windows 2K or so. This is the default format for larger capacity USB drives since more files can be added per folder. See page 51 of the manual for the Philips HTS6510 for the file format specifications for USB drives.

If the file format is FAT16 or FAT32, try a different USB drive and check the current drive in another device. The USB drive may be damaged or may have lost the data it needs to find the files. All flash memory can fail with no warning. Replace a faulty drive. Alternatively, the USB port on the HTS6510 could be damaged. This can happen if too much current flows through the port. If the port is damaged, I don't recommend having the unit repaired unless it is under warranty (1 year). Copy your files to a CD and listen to the music or view the images from that media. The overall cost will be lower.

Philips has the manual on the product support page: https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/HTS6510_05/-/support . The current link to the manual is https://www.download.p4c.philips.com/files/h/hts6510_05/hts6510_05_dfu_eng.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Hdmi

The HDMI lead only carries the video and audio from the HTS6510/05 to the TV.

The scart carries audio and video both ways.

Re-connect the scart lead and all will be ok.

N.B. When the HTS6510 is switched on, the TV will auto-switch to the scart input. You will then need to switch the TV to HDMI to get the benefit from the DVD upscaling.

Philips HTS6510- Content cannot be displayed (Non HDCP Compliant)

Hi Joey,
This is the my second HTS6510. I sent the first one back in August as it would not play the disc nor eject it and I'd only just got it. The replacement has worked well until recently when virtually the same problem you are experiencing happened to mine without "the contents cannot be displayed" bit. It corrected itself but did the same thing tonight and this time it sometimes displays the "content cannot be displayed" bit. I think it is the HDMI out connection that is at fault. Could be that it cannot cope with the sound, but I'm a long way from knowing how these things work. If you come back on site and know the answer please share it with me. I will be getting onto the seller in the morning as it's still under manufacturers warranty.
Cheers.
