SOURCE: screen went black while watching, no sound
Almost for certain your power supply board is bad, Can be repaired at the component level only if you have some electronics savy! Good Luck!
SOURCE: hitachi 55 inch went black and standby light stays
Hope you already resolve it, if not, here what I went through 1. go to http://www.service-docs2.com or similar place to get a service manual for your model ($10-18) 2. Open the back and follow instructions how to remove and test the SDR-D and SDR-U board on the far left (take one off, see if you could see half the picture). Inpsect the chips on those two boards, you might be able to spot the burned out holes (that would be the defected board, seemed to be a known issue for particular models) 3. If it is the board, go to ebay and get the pulled out board replacement ($70-90) I fixed my 50 inch plasma this way
SOURCE: Black out?!?!?
I turned on my 55HDS69 a week ago and WAAH-BOOM, No more picture but the sound was fine. The resolution underway at a local repair shop is to replace the upper & lower buffers. The TV is 2 yrs and nine months old. I did not buy the extended warranty as I expected a $3000+ TV to last longer than 3 years especially since my house is like a climate controlled class 40 clean room and teh TV is not over used. The parts are ~$225, The labor is ~$225. Hitcahi would have sent the parts for free had I been within the 2-year window (1 yr regular warranty + 1 yr grace period). It was absolutely silly of me to think HITACHI would do the right thing and send me parts at 2 yrs and 9 months (sarcasm). I can tell you one thing......There is NFW I will ever buy a Hitachi product again and that includes anything even affiliated with Hitachi (inc. imbedded electronics). I will steer every person on the planet away from them in the future. My original plan was to ship the TV to the Hitachi CEO to make a point but the Hitachi folks don't deserve that kind of respect (Unless it blows out again) :(
SOURCE: I have a hitachi model # 46f500 projection tv.
This model uses two convergence IC's----if 3 D one or both are bad.
Most of the time this set uses either two of the STK-392-110 OR THE STK-392-150 CHIPS.
Both chips and any bad protection resistors around them need to be replaced and the set adjusted.
If you are able to do the repair yourself total parts cost will be under 30 dollars.
Some history for you:
This set like all rear projection
tube type sets uses two chips---the ones in your set are Black in
color--about 2 1/2 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches tall and are on either
one large or two smaller heat sinks with fins on them.
When the chips are installed a white grease called heat sink compound is applied to the metal back of each---the grease transfers heat from the chip quickly to the metal it is bolted to.
After some years the grease dries out from the heat and one of the chips goes instantly.
You can buy a pair of the chips for your set on Ebay for less than 15 dollars plus shipping--
If
you cannot do the repair yourself--shop around your area---most shops
charge 300-400 for this type of repair. Whoever you get to do it make
sure BOTH chips are replaced or you will have the same problem in a few
months.
If you open the set and locate the chips---they will
have the full STK number printed on them in white letters----there are
about 12 resistors around them that need to be looked at--if any are
discolored they need to be replaced.
If a shop says it HAS TO GO
TO THE SHOP keep looking as any good tech can do this repair right in
your home in about 1 hour---I know as I have done hundreds of them.
IF
you can solder and are handy I will give you general instructions on
how to do the repair and what you need---some people I talk to can
either do it or have a friend who can do it for them---let me know
I can tell you what you will need aside from the parts and how to proceed with the fix---
If all this helped rate this solution---I do this here for free.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADVICE LET ME KNOW--I am here to help people.

SOURCE: 55 inch hitachi lcd projection tv has yellow and
This, sadly is getting to be a very common problem with all Projection LCD TV's
Colored Blotches on an LCD Projection TV are usually caused by defects or marks on filters or lenses on one of the LCD panels themselves which are all located in the light engine (or optical block) First confirm that the lamp or main lens is not discolored by removing the lamp (unplug set and let cool before removing!) and visually inspecting the lamp itself and the lens that it shines onto. The light engine is an expensive part ($600-$1200) to replace and requires major disassembly. Have a tech confirm-Get an estimate -Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!
