When I turn on my TI-83 Plus calculator I get the following message"Waiting... Please install calculator software now.When I press ON I get the error message "ERROR! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit back on. I have done this and I get the first message and then the second message! I have tried taking the battery out and holding the CLEAR button. It doesn't work. I have tried to take out the battery and hold the CLEAR button and the ON button and this does not work either. Please someone help. I am not that technically oriented.

Please Install Calculator Software Now error
This message means that the operating system has been corrupted. These steps will allow you to update the OS.
Unit to Unit
• Connect two TI-83 Plus units by means of the data cable (short black cable that was prepackaged with the TI-83 Plus)
• Make sure that at least one of the TI-83 Pluses contains the current Operating System
• Select [2nd] Link
• Select "Send OS" option from the Link menu
• Make sure that the other unit still reads "Waiting Please Install"
• The OS should be downloading.
From the Computer
• Make sure you have the latest version of the TI Connect™ Software
• Download the latest version of OS for the TI-83 Plus to the desktop of the PC.
• Connect the appropriate TI-GRAPH LINK™ cable between the PC and TI-83 Plus.
• Since the TI-83 Plus is currently off, the TI-83 Plus will automatically turn on when the TI-GRAPH LINK Cable is inserted.
• On your computer, choose Start, Programs, TI Tools, TI Connect, TI OS Downloader.

by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust
the contrast down, use the down arrow.Try a new set of batteries (including the backup battery).
Remove one of the AAA batteries, hold down on the DEL key while
reinserting the AAA battery. The handheld might display
"Waiting...Please install calculator software now". If you get this
message, the information in the "Correcting the Error Waiting" section
shown below will help you correct the problem. Before trying that
procedure, reinstall one of the AAA batteries again. This time do not
hold down the DEL key.Remove one of the AAA batteries, press and hold the [on] key for
10 seconds, release, replace the battery, then turn the unit on. Adjust
the contrast.Remove the AAA batteries for three hours. After the three hour
period, reinsert the batteries and turn the handheld on. Adjust the
contrast if necessary.

do the following, it's the only solution if you dont have a secon ti 83Make sure you have the latest version of the TI Connect™ Software
Download the latest version of OS for the TI-83 Plus to the desktop of the PC.

Since the TI-83 Plus is currently off, the TI-83 Plus will automatically turn on when the TI-GRAPH LINK Cable is inserted.

You need to rest the Ti to erase all it's data, and then try and reconnect and reinstall the OS again. This will save you a lot of trouble than figuring out if you can do anything else. The OS is corrupted and I assume that it won't budge until you successfully get a new OS in it... Good Luck with the connections...
That's why your problem now is how to successfully connect the TI to your computer. Try reinstalling the TI drivers first either in normal or safe mode. Once it gets connected, you can install the TI OS once again to solve the original problem...

IDO NOT HAVE TWO CALCULATORS!! PLEASE ADVISE, ED CRAMER
when I turn on my TI-83 Plus calculator I get the following message "Waiting... Please install calculator software." When I press the ON button I get the error message " ERROR! Press any key to turn the unit off. The turn the unit back on. This just gives me back the first message! I have tried taking the battery out and then pressing the ON button. This doesn't work. I have tried taking the battery out while holding down the CLEAR button and while holding this button press the ON button. This also doesn't work. It has been suggested that I use two TI-83 Plus calculators connected. This is not a practical solution for me. I am disabled and rather isolated. Please help. Thanks, Ed
software is installed. When I hook up the cable to between the computer and the calculator it won't connect. Before this happened the connection did go through and I was able to download and also tranfer an equation to the pc.
I have replaced the all of the AAA batteries. I don't have any problems with the contrast and besides when the calculator is on with on or the other message no other keys seem to work.
I have taken out all of the AAA batteries and the re-install them in 3 hours and see what happens.I must also tell you that when I connect the cable to the PC and the calculator, the calculator does NOT go on. When trying to connect I get a message sayint the It cannot find the device.
