A typical answer for thisĀ·

1. Cut off power to the water heater at the panelĀ·
2. Check the water heater reset button- The water heater reset button is the red button situated on the water radiator itself (simply over the indoor regulator). Some water heater may have two reset catches one for each indoor regulator. To get to the reset catch, you may need to evacuate the metal plate covering the indoor regulator that is held set up by screws. You may likewise need to evacuate a rectangular bit of froth protection to see the reset catch(button).
3.DO NOT reset if safety features continuously trip.

Your upper thermostat on the hot water tank may be shorting out causing your breaker to trip. Remove the outer panel door on the side of the hot water tank and test for power going to the elements. Also check for water as the tank may be leaking and causing the short

Limited hot water from 62 gal ge model D03666 looking for type and how to replace heating elements

Open following links to get started.
If water heater has NO hot water, then best suspect is ECO reset button tripped on upper thermostat. Open upper cover and push in red reset button. If reset keeps tripping, I usually replace both upper and lower thermostat.

If water heater has some hot water, then upper element is good so test lower element.

I have an AO Smith Model EES 52 917 hot water heater. This morning my hot water suddenly disappeared. I have tried resetting the breaker with no luck.. I am not sure what else to try.

You have electric water heater.

Inside the upper panel on water heater is a thermostat with red reset button.
1) Click the reset.
2) Put insulation back over thermostat so it is not exposed to cooler air, so it reads correct temperature.

After resetting thermostat, you will have hot water.
The reset automatically clicks off when thermostat detects temperatures in excess of 150 degrees.
The re-set is a safety device, and it keeps everything safe.
If reset will not 're-set' with cold water in the tank, then thermostat is bad, replace thermostat.
You can repair electric water heater yourself following steps on links below

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

If the reset clicks off again, just reset it
This is not a dangerous situation
Reset thermostat as many times as necessary until you can fix the problem

No hot water

If you checked the reset, then the next thing to check would be the breaker in your breaker box. If that doesnt work start checking the elements. The reset, the thermostat and the elements are pretty much all that can go wrong with an electric water heater, short of a leaky tank or faulty t&p valve. Hope this helps.
