I own a samsung RF197acrs/xac. Periodically, several times a day, it makes a noise like: Bzzzz tak, bzzz tak as if it were in defrost mode, but regularly.

I wonder if it's normal. Because the temperature is perfect, the freezer and the refrigerator keeps the food. It's only this noise, many times a day that puzzles me and I'm afraid to see my next electricity bill. Do you have any idea what this strange noise may be. the fan and the compressor do not make noises.

YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE DEFROST CIRCUIT. NORMALLY BOTH THE DEFROST COMPONENTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOT OFTEN DOES THE DEFROST TIMER GIVE TROUBLE SO IF BOTH COMPONENTS ARE REPLACED AND ELEMENT IS GOOD BUT ICE STILL BUILDS UP THEN TIMER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS WELL.

SOURCE: noise (more detail)

I think I answered this in an earlier post.

The noise is the fan banging against the motor housing. It's not a defective motor, it's a poorly designed motor.

The solution is to shim the motor mount so it is slightly out of level which will keep the fan from bouncing off the motor housing.

The reason Samsung won't service is they don't understand the problem. I've seen this a half-dozen times.

Trust me -- SHIM THE MOTOR MOUNT!

Try setting it to lower temperature. If that don't work the thermostat is bad.

Our two door samsung has making noise from the motor and when you open the door it will stop. [email protected]

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

The noise that stops when you open the door is the evaporator fan. If it sounds like blades striking something there is most likely too much ice in the evaporator coils and the fan blades are striking the built up ice. If it sounds like a vibration it can be bad bearings inthe evaporatof fan motor.

Ice build up is usually a sign of an automatic defrost circuit problem. The unit should defrost close to 3 times a day depending on the defrost control installed. What you should do is do a manual defrost session by unplugging the unit, removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. This will ensure that all of the evaporator coil ice has melted. (Yes it makes a water mess) Tidy things up and return the unit to normal service after your manual defrost session. NOTE: If you have an automatic defrosting problem the fan noise can repeat in as little as 2 days as the ice once again builds up on the evaporator coils.

DO the manual defrost, LISTEN for noise after 24 - 48 hours. No noise... no worries, NOISE after 24 - 48 hours = Defrost problem. Causes of a defrost problem can be the defrost control, defrost heating element, the defrost thermostat or a wiring problem.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Rattling Engine noise in idling conditions also.

That could very well be the case.

You could have some bad piston slap problems. Not uncommon to those models

Noisey compressor

Does it make the noise all of the time or just periodically? Does the outdoor fan run when it is making the noise. If the fan isn't running and the compressor is noisy at that time likely it is in defrost mode which is normal.
