The compressor is vibrating but not hot. Condensor coils not dirty. Changed starter relay ..still not working. Compressor fan spins freely appears to be working. Can hear evaporator fan. Some Green gritty substance in fridge and small amount beside compressor
First I would clean all grim. Second if you do not have refrigerant gauges feel discharge line with hand. Will be a smaller line and coverd with foam. It should be hot to condensor. if not You probabaly lost charge. Also top of compressor should be hot. Should the above not meet specs. You need to find leak, get a pro. to locate repair leak, as you need licenese to go further.
SOURCE: Kenmore Refrgierator is not cooling enough
Is the frost on the entire surface of the evaporator or just a portion. If it is only frosting on a portion there is a possibility your system has developed a leak and has lost some of the charge. Or your compressor has lost its ability to pump the gas. A bad condenser fan motor overtaxes the compressor and can cause premature failure. If it is a bad compressor it may be time to replace the refrigerator. Replacing the compressor is an expensive job and the warranty is only one year on a replaced compressor.
SOURCE: Freezer gets cold, Refrigerator Hot
First, I think it’s important to know that the Ref side has no cooling coils, it’s basically a box and the cold air in the freezer is blown over by a fan through a channel into the Ref side. This channel has a door which regulates how much cold air goes through. You probably have two control knobs in the Ref side, one controls the temp with numbers 1-9, 9 being the coldest. This temp control tells the compressor how long to run. The other control is for that little door and it may have letters A-E, E being the coldest. If you set it on E (coldest) then this will close that little door and keep most the cold air in the freezer.
Now, why is that cold air not getting over to the Ref side?
1. The little door is not open.
check your control setting. You can't see the door but, you should be able to feel air coming through the channel on the Ref side.
2. The fan in the freezer is not working.
You can hear this fan running when you open the freezer.
3. The coils on the freezer side are clogged with ice which won't let the fan circulate the air over to the Ref side.
This is a failure of the defrost system which consist of the defrost timer, heater, and thermo disc.
Also, If you replaced the evaporator fan then you got a good look at the cooling coils. Look at these coils while it is running. There should be a light coat of frost on all the coils. If this frost line is only 3/4 or 1/2 or any amount less than full coverage of the coils then the system has a coolant leak.
Directly under these coils is the drain pan and drain hole in the middle. This area should be clear of any ice or debris.
SOURCE: Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down
The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

ok well... those pipes coming from your compressor one of them should be hot. if not your compressor is not running.

Hi,
Compressor's discharge hot gas must be between 160-200 deg F, if the hot gas gone to excessive heat because the condenser coil is dirty and the fan is not working, then the unit experienced cooling malfunction as what you've encountered right now. I would advice you to replace the fan and clean the condenser using condenser coil cleaner for effective cleaning and your unit will work normal again.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Question did you have a tech come and charge unit. If so you may have over charge, can not be checked without gauges.
