Yes ,the ice maker need to get cool down before it starts making ice . It also could be a de-icing fan motor ,if the ice maker is inside of the refrigerator
Take a hair dryer and blow warm air into the the hose that supplies the water to the ice maker for about 5 min. What you have is the water supply line is frozen going to the ice maker.
SOURCE: Ice maker water level too high
generally, there is a screw adjustment for this. usually, turning it clockwise sends more water during fill period (makes period longer). try it and adjust clockwise or counter-clockwise as necessary. Now finding the screw...try prying (or unscrewing) off the plastic cover over what appears to be the ice-maker unit (may also be on back side of frig.

check your owners manual for a water filter, make sure trip arm isn't stuck closed and not letting water in to freeze.

You did remember to turn it back on? Mine has a handle that detects when the tray is full and you flip it up to turn it off and down to turn it on. Good Luck

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

Look on the bottom of the rectangular motor housing for the ice maker. This is the white box that holds the front end of the ice tray. In the past, this was normally a small patch of black 'runner' that covered the switch and helped kkep moisture out.
If you cannot locate it by feel, try using a small mirror and a flashlight to help you locate it.

Oh wait if there was ice cubes inside of the ice maker then your ice maker is bad . The heating element went out of it .or if it's a type of ice maker that twist to release the ice still bad. On some of those l.g refrigerator .the ice maker has a reset button on it .I have own my appliance repair business for 17 years n seen so many types of ice makers on l.g
Thanks so much for responding. Yes. There were 9 cubes stuck in the ice maker. Nothing in the ice bucket. I took the whole thing out and ran it under hot water to melt the ice out. Reinstalled it and a little while later 2 cubes fell out. Heard/saw nothing all night then looked this morning and nothing. Said screw it and pulled it out again then pressed the "test" button on the side. Wife said a little while later 9 cubes fell out. Also said there was some water in the bin so now I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do.
If it continues to do the same thing a where it makes ice here n there then the problem is your ice make, don't waist your time defrosting it or anything else that other people has told you,I have seen this same problem lots of times.call up repair clinic or appliance parts and order another ice maker .

Thank You David. I was leaning toward it being the ice maker itself as it is obviously receiving water but is not freezing it or dumping it properly.
You're welcome.if you need anything else let me know
As an aside, I've spent the day trying to find the correct part and order it. Since the fridge has a model number AND a "BOM Name" nobody (including Samsung) wants to commit to what part the ice maker is so now I have to wait until I get home and pull it out AGAIN to get the part number. Insane.
If you can't find the part .send me the model number and I can find it for you .
Hey David, I found one on ebay brand new that had never been installed. 2 hours later it started cranking out ice. emptied the ice last night to make sure it wasn't a fluke like after hitting the reset on the broken one. Got up this morning to 2 new batches. Thanks for your help!
