Likely you will find it has an elastomeric connector between the LCD and its circuit board that has failed. If you have experience with this type of connector it can be replaced IF a suitable connector can be found. So not likely a DIY repair.

SOURCE: janome e1 error

The erreor message relates to the motor sensing that it is working unusually hard.........the extra strain will have a physical cause, generally in the hook and bobbin region.......something blocking or slowing things down, so.......
Remove needleplate and bobbin case.
You will probably find an accumulation of lint in and around this area, also possibly in the feeddog channels.
Use a small brush and vacuum with crevice tool to remove the lint and wipe the hookrace with a tissue moistened with methylated (denatured) spirit to remove any dirt deposits.
Also check that the bobbin case is not damaged on the top surface by needle strikes or on the underside rim by the hook gouging as it spins.
If damage is present but mild, you can use very fine emery paper to smooth surface, if more severe, replace the bobbin case. Don't forget to change needles regularly too.
Best of ......

SOURCE: Download a Janome (Jem 639) sewing machine manual

Just today  i got out my little janome i bought years ago and it is this model.  There was no "manual" with the machine.  All that came with it is a large 20X14 two sided print out.  I can scan and send this to you with an email address.

A screen that is dim is a problem that for most is not a home repair solution. Basically, a computer component is failing.

The LCD screen on my janome 9000 sewing machine has gone blank, but i can still sew it's just i can't see the screen, can it be fixed?

Either the bulb has burned out or you have accidentally turned the control to darken the screen. Look in the top where the feet are stored. You should see a half moon shaped valve on the inside edge of the top front - that is the control for the brightness/darkness control of the screen.

I want to sell my 1991 New Home memory Craft 8000 sewing machine

A good place to see what machines are selling for is Ebay. That's where I sold a sewing machine and an embroidery machine.

It helps to know your product and machine embroidery lingo.

What are cassettes? Floppy disks? These make the machine borderline obsolete.

Memory cards are still around, but most EM now have USB connectivity or USB flash drives.

Satin thread? Embroidery machines use Rayon or Polyester embroidery thread.

Having had the machine recently serviced is also a plus.

The sewing advisor screen on a Janome 8000 is getting dim.

When your Memory Craft 8000 or MC 5700 is otherwise working fine but the LCD display screen begins to grow darker and you find you just can't read it, the only thing you can do is replace the LCD screen, or buy a new machine.
Janome no longer stock this item direct, but there is an affordable replacement available.

Full Access and Installation instructions are provided, so you can DIY or have someone else do the replacement for you.

Also includes advice, links & contacts to be able to Reset your screen and do a Self Diagnosis Routine to test your machine BEFORE you purchase a replacement LCD backlight for either the Janome MC 8000 or MC 5700, so you can check that there are no other troubles.
