Which machine? If it is a domestic sewing machine, you will most likely ruin it sewing heavy canvas. (Don't be confused if the maker says it's "heavy duty." Heavy duty domestics are no different than other domestics--it's just a fancy name to make you think it's heavy duty.) A real heavy-duty machine would be an industrial machine.

I have a few of the old White machines and it is never obvious as to how they are threaded. I found a YouTube video demo of a White and the fellow does a pretty fair job of showing how to thread the machine. When you have the embroidery unit connected to the machine, you must have the foot pedal cord disconnected. Then it should work. As for using this machine for normal sewing, yes, it is supposed to do that. Unless you get a lemon like mine. It lost reverse, and only takes long stitches. Hopefully your luck is better than mine with this Disney "thing".
