SOURCE: No Picture - Samsung LN-S4692D 46in HDTV LCD

I had the same problem and I replaced the t-con board. My t.v. is fixed!!!! I just couldn't see spending another 700.00 dollars for a repair shop to fix it. The t-con board is located at the top of the t.v. once you remove the back cover. Be very careful removing the two plugs at the top of the board which was easy once I figured out how the clips worked. there is a black lever like connection which flips up, then grip with your fingers the tab and slide the tape like wires straight out. The bottom plug is very simple. Also to expose the t-con board you will have to remove a heat shield cover. Once removed there is foil looking tape that needs to be peeled back to expose the board. The board is very sensitive to static electricity so if you have a grounding strap that you can strap to your wrist and ground to the frame while performing your repair. Its best to lay the t.v. face down on the kitchen table with a blanket to protect the screen. Good luck!

SOURCE: Sharp aquos lcd screen goes blank

i was having these same problems with the screen going black, and i found that when i hit the back of my tv it would work sometimes. so, i improvised on some of the advice on this page and so far no problems. here is what i did (its very easy):

1. lay the tv on the floor and take off the back panel. (i think 12 screws)

2. on the right side of the tv (as you are looking at the back) you will notice a large metal covering that is held in place by 6 screws. unscrew these and remove the metal cover.

3. you will notice that the three screw holes on the left side of the board have some sort of metal or solder around them, in sort of a star pattern. when i looked closely i noticed that most of the metal (solder) was tarnished, or kind of blackened. (this must mean that the ground screws werent getting a good connection and this would explain why it would work sometimes when i hit it because it would vibrate the screws enough to get a good connection! )

so, take a pencil eraser and erase all the black or tarnish off the metal surrounding the screw holes. thats it! (to be safe i took some sandpaper and cleaned up the screw holes on the back of the metal covering, but i dont know if that was necessary)

at this point i followed another gentleman's advice to do a hard reset. this involved unplugging the 8 connections although i dont know if this was really necessary because i believe my problem was a ground issue. i did it just to be safe. his advice is on this site if you want to do this step.

4. i put everything back together and it worked! i performed a soft reset at this point which puts your tv back to factory settings. just go to menu>setup>reset>return to factory settings? yes
this will turn your tv off and back on. that's it. so far so good for me.

Lcd tv screen goes black after a few seconds but sound still plays. The flashlight test will show the image for a short period of time but then it goes away and is completely black.

Hello... It sounds like you have a backlight failure, and the image going away during the flashlight test is due to the TV going into "Protection" mode. A service technician may be able to go into the service menu and clear the lamp error codes and get the TV working, or it may need the backlights replaced. I hope this helps...

When tv turned on will get apicture for only a few seconds then screen goes black, but wil continue to have audio. Cannot pull up menu on tv either

Hello. The screen goes black means that the backlights of your LCD is not working.Maybe the problem is the power supply or the driver board of the backlights. They shutdown because there have a shorted parts on the circuit or power supply. Did you try to reset the power and turned on and get a picture or every time that you reset the power it will get a picture and the picture goes black?

Image goes to black on Sharp flatscreen.

An LCD unit? Sounds like the backlight is failing. When it goes black next time, use a strong light next to the screen and look for a faint image on the screen....

If it is the backlight, its a service shop issue.

Black box on screen

That sounds like a text box. Press the cc button and keep pressing it. You will see different closed captions options on your screen each time you press the button. Finally when it says cc off stop pressing the button and you should no longer get the black box. If you have a cable box connected you may also have to disable the captioning on it.

Lc32gd8e backlight goes out in middle of a program

This is not a complete solution, but I have found that once the backlight has gone out, I can normally get it back by selecting the "Audio Only" option in the setup menu without turning the set off. This option is really intended for use with radio broadcasts when the picture carries no useful content.
When I press the 'menu' button on the remote and select the right hand most tab, the top option under this tab is 'Audio only'. I select the tab, and then exit from the menu until I need it. When the backlight goes out, I press the following key sequence:
menu, down, ok, right, ok, menu
and the picture reappears. Pressing the menu button opens the menu page at the correct (righthand most) tab. the down highlights the 'audio only' option, and the OK selects this. The right turns the option on (with the backlight working, the picture is removed, but the menu is still displayed). The second OK activates the option. The backlight is turned out. Finally, the second menu key press turns the backlight back on again. This technique has the advantage that the sound continues throughout the sequence, and the recovery of the picture is faster than waiting for the set to boot from a power off condition.
I suspect the problem is caused by an intermittent contact on one of the tubes, possibly as the result of some movement as the tube warms up and expands. (There are 8 tubes in the 32" set.) This causes a safety ciruit to shut down the inverter supplying power to the tubes. Switching off the backlight resets the safety circuit. If I manage to confirm this suspicion, I will write again.
