If all other function buttons works properly; except for the Volume-button; the remote control need cleaning. If someone can't increase volume and decrease it from remote (I assume batteries and technically the remote is ok and everything else works on it), just mute and unmute and now Onkyo will let you increase and decrease volume from the remote.
if all the buttons are working and only this one isn't working then there's something wrong with how it functions. does the button have a double function?
My volume button also broke (actually, the VOLUME UP function stopped working). Rather than trying to get the remote fixed, I found a different solution...
I reprogrammed the + key (bottom left of the remote) to be my new Volume UP function. You can do this by going to any of the activities you've already defined, and adding a custom button to the activity.
Choose the + button (it will probably not have an existing function), and tell it to use the Volume Up function of the component you normally use for volume. In my case, it was the Home Theater Receiver.
I hope that helps.
