The symptoms you are describing are usually caused by a lid switch malfunction. A lid switch is a very simple and inexpensive fix. The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

In many cases a simple inspection of the lid switch is all it takes to fix it. It could be loose or not making proper contact. Check the mounting screws that hold the switch in place, first. If the screws are loose or missing, that may be all this required to get the switch to line up correctly with the lid strike. The lid strike is a small plastic piece that is physically mounted to the washer lid. The strike activates the switch through a slot as the lid closes. If the lid strike is broken or missing, this will also cause the same symptoms.

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can find replacement parts at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in the the model number and you can locate what you need under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. The lid switch is item number 9 (part #285671) and the lid strike is item number 20 (part #358684).

I hope you find this information helpful. The total cost of your repair is less than $50 if you follow the instructions in the link I provided and repair it yourself. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

I just tried looking your model up but the # you gave is incomplete. If your washer is a top loader and has a belt, my experience has been the mode shift actuator causes lid lock light to blink as you have described. That is a fairly inexpensive and simple part to replace.

My Ge Profile washing machine is not spinning, it goes through out the whole cycle but doesn't spin so the washing & draining works really badly, could it be the air bell housing? Can't afford a...

Hello,

There are several reasons that a washing machine won't drain or spin. The cause could be something as easy as a clog or something difficult that will need a licensed repairman. Start with the simplest possible cause and work down to the more difficult causes.

HERE ARE INSTRUCTION BELOW

  • A washing machine won't spin if the water can't drain. Check hoses for any kinks or clogs that may prevent the water from draining. If a hose has kinks, try to straighten out the kinked hose. If it can't be straighten sufficiently, replace the hose. If hoses are not kinked, check for clogged hoses. This can be done by using the screwdrivers to remove the hoses and looking for clogs or running a water hose through the clogged hose to remove the clog. Use the rags and bucket to clean up the water that comes out of the hoses when they are disconnected. Once the clog is cleared, put the drain hose back into place. The washer should drain and spin now if a clogged or kinked hose was the problem.
  • 2 If the washer still won't drain or spin, check to see if the lid is not closing all the way or if the lid switch is not clicking into place. Close the lid and make sure that it closes all the way down. When the lid closes, the lid switch should click. If there is no clicking sound, then the switch may need to be replaced. Follow manufacturer's directions for replacing the switch. If the lid does not close all the way, visually check for signs that the lid is bent. If bent, try to bend it back into place.
  • 3 Loose or broken belts could also prevent a washing machine from draining or spinning. Pull the washer away from the wall and, using the screwdrivers and wrenches, remove the back panel. Using the flashlight, visually check for any broken or loose belts. Replace any broken or loose belts. Although replacing washing machine belts is difficult, anyone who has replaced belts on a car, lawn mower or even a bicycle chain should be able to accomplish the task.
  • 4 Another possibility for a washing machine to not spin or drain is the pump. With the back panel still off the washer, check the pump with the voltmeter to ensure that the pump is getting power. If the washer is getting power, turn on the washer and listen to find out if the pump is running but the water is still not draining. It may be necessary to remove the pump and clean it or to replace the pump with a new one. Once the pump is replaced, turn on the washer to determine if it will now drain and spin.
  • 5 If all of the above steps fail to produce a washing machine that drains or spins, then it is time to call a professional repairman. Use the screwdrivers and wrenches to replace the panel on the washer and push it back against the wall
  • Hope this is helpful?

    Thanks and good luck.

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Remove the front lower panel, screws underneath. Be prepared for water, drain out from drain hose. Check filter for clogging, clean out. Sometimes when the load is unbalanced & the machine cannot adjust the load it stops. To avoid this make sure your wash is mixed with big and small clothes.
If this does not work remove the rear panel & check belt, should have half inch ‘give’. Still not good, remove belt, unscrew 2 bolts that hold the motor, unplug the motor connector, lever the motor back with a screwdriver. Check the motor brushes (at terminal end of motor), if they are any shorter than 1 cm replace brushes.

    • Check the drain hose for a partial blockage
    • Inspect the water pump
    Spin:
    • Test the lid switch
    • Test the timer control
    • Test the centrifugal switch
    • Test the water level switch
    • Inspect the motor coupler
    • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
    • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
    • Test the motor
    • Inspect the pulley
    • Test the transmission

Washer does not remove water in final spin

If washer hums when it should spin, and the washer will not drain, you may have 2 issues.
First check that the drain pump, drain hose, and wall drain are free of debris.
The washer may not spin properly if the drain system is not operable.
Once you are sure the washer drain pump, drain lines, wall drain, and drain hose is okay, run a test wash.
If the washer hums but now drains, you fixed one issue.
If the washer still hums, you may have a bad belt, motor coupler, motor itself, etc...
Check parts for wear and replace as necessary.I pulled the drain impeller and found a sock from my little guy stuck in there. Fixed!
check all water outlets to make sure there is nothing blocking the pipes.
