SOURCE: toilet wont flush completely. it may take 4 times

there is no air release. the vent must be clogged somewhere. you can take a hose up there and see if it drains all the way or floods over. since the tub drain has a trap and the toilet itself is a trap, there has to bee a good amount of air pressure coming up without a release. i would say an obstruction. possibly at the junction of the main and the vent.

SOURCE: toilet bowl gurgles after flushing cycle

Sounds like your toilet is not vented properly. Possilbly something caught in the trap is causing it to syphon

Just upgraded to a dual flush toilet. Now toilet won't flush. Have used augers, no clog. Everything else drains ok but toilet will come up in tub and sink the few times it has flushed ok! Desperate

If water backs up into your tub that tells me your main drain line is pretty well plugged farther out. could even be the line going out of your house. If it sets for a while the line may drain but it will be very slow. You need a plumber to check it out as one of these days it will just plug up completely.

AVibrating sound for 10 seconds- like a moan- after toilet is flushed and filled. What is going on? It doesn't happen every time.

Depends upon several things, the most difficult would be too much air in the pipes. Before having a "anti-hammer" installed; I would try this... go to the supply for the cold water pipe (for that room, dependent upon the age and style of your home) maybe the basement??? See if there is a place, other than the toilet, to turn off the water supply (turn the water off), open the cold water valves of your sink and tub and flush the toilet, and drain about 1 quart of water from that line. Leave the tub and sink cold water valves open and slowly open the valve you turned off, allow water to flow from the faucets and flush the toilet a few times. What you are trying to do is allow the air to escape. Turn off the faucets and flush the toilet again, open the partially closed valve all the way. This should get rid of trapped air, and it is the cheapest first step. This is one example of an "Anti-hammer" device.

Note: On some houses it may be difficult to find a place to drain the cold water line, without turning off the entire home.

My toilet flushes, then the water in the bowl drains over 4-5 minutes resulting in sewer gas smells.

Look inside the tank under the lid, it sounds like the flapper that lets the water into the bowl is getting hung up on something when you flush. It could be the flushing lever. This would cause the flapper to stay open letting water to just pour into the open sewer line. It should be a simple fix. Just see what is binding the flapper & make an adjustment.

I have a new American Standard Cadet 3 that was just installed. After flushing, the water fills into the bowl. However, after several minutes, the water in the bowl slowly drains away and is nearly gone....

Sorry for problem with new toilet.
You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.
See typical flush valve

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.

Hi every now and again we are getting a sewer smell from our bathroom we have only recently moved in the house so not sure what to do, but it doesn't seem to happen all the time and everything flushes okay...

The smell may be coming from the sink trap if there is a problem with the vent pipe (that's in the wall from the sewer line to the roof). Do you ever hear gurgling in the sink drain when you flush? When you have the smell again, stick your head in the sink and see if that's where it's coming from. If you have a floor drain, the smell may be coming from there. In either case, a bit of water added to the drain will fill the trap and stop the smell. Please vote if you found this helpful. Good luck, Al K

Kohler Cimarron elongated comfort height toilet not flushing correctly

low water in the bowl is only caused by the float being to high! the gurgles is Usually because of air coming back up through the pipe, check your vent pipe that come out the roof. this will help the draining.
