I too have been going crazy trying to find instructions for this seed spreader. Go to Ortho Products online and select chat. Tell the agent the UPC code for it, which is: 71549-08450. Because of the extreme caustic nature of salt, that substance can ruin any machine, regardless of the materials it is made of.
If you should try to spread it, it may work if the granule size matches the product the spreader is designed for, but immediately upon completion of your task, you would need to completely wash the spreader, getting any trace of salt off, and then if there are any metal parts, you would need to completely dry it.
That task could cause you to "forget about it".

It sounds to me like your grass is wet when you're applying, which is what the label calls for if you're trying to kill weeds. But is this wet grass maybe TOO TALL when you're pushing the spreader through it?
Next time, try mowing the lawn, then waiting 1-2 days before applying Turfbuilder Plus 2.
