How do I get to the bolt holding the agitator off. There is a semi-clear cap over the bolt and about 5-6 below the top cap that I can not remove. Any suggestions?

Agitator removal Moffat MTAP1100F2WW. There are 4 slots which are just above this cap but I can not get anything in there to get under that cap.

SOURCE: Agitator loose

Just reach down between the basket and the agitator, and lift really hard straight up. Be sure not to hit yourself in the head when it pops loose. GE agitators just snap on to the air-bell underneith. Be sure that bell isnt loose after you remove. Good Luck!!!!

SOURCE: Agitator (can't get to the dogs)

my whirlpool agitator is agitating me too! Did you figure out how to separate the top part? It looks like there are 4 white plastic tabs sticking throught the clear plastic ring (that holds the dogs).

I've pulled on it and I'm about to break out the hammer if I can't get this loose :)

SOURCE: Remove the agitator

The agitator is actually pressed on without mechanical fasteners . Grab the bottom of the agitator firmly on each side. Pull up with a quick, hard **** (careful not to hit your face). If this does not work, wrap a belt under the agitator. Grab the belt firmly and pull up with a quick, hard ****.

Once the top cap of the agitator is removed, take a pair of pliers and pull up forcefully on the plastic cap inside. Then take a 7/16 socket wrench and remove the agitator bolt. Pull the agitator apart. Get part number 3366877 from any appliance parts store.

SOURCE: HOW TO REMOVE AGITATOR ON A HOT POINT WASHER

if anyone is still doing this.. i had a hotpoint model type vbxr1060. It had just a cap on agitator no extra bolts and used two hammers to get underneath the base creating leverage..

Work both hammers in (using the nail puller side) as far as possible towards the center of the agitator on opposing sides and use them to pull up and slightly outwards towards the sides of the basin. When you get it off you will see why this works as the agitator's base has mini clips that grasp the base of the air bell housing. hope this tip helps someone.

Whirlpool top-loader LSQ9200LQ0 The top half of the agitator is not turning. I am assuming it is a stripped part. What would be the best way to take this apart??

You have what bad "agitator dogs". Yes this is a stripped out part. To get to the dogs, you will need to take the fabric softener dispenser off the top of the agitator (if your unit does not have a dispenser, then just take the cover of the agitator). Under that you will see a semi transparent cap that fits inside the shaft of the agitator, pull that straight up and out of the agitator. Now you can see the bolt that hold the agitator to the transmission shaft, this is a 1/2" or 9/16" bolt. You will need a socket with a long extension to reach this. Take a digital picture, or sketch the position of the dogs inside the agitator, this will help with the reassembly process. Once the bolt is out, the agitator will lift off. Turn the agitator upside down and depress the tabs up inside the shaft of the agitator, this will release the top of the agitator from the bottom, be careful, there are small parts that will fall out. Try to separate it in one piece, as this will make it easier to reassemble. Once separated, remove the old dogs and replace with the new, reassemble in reverse. When tightening the bolt, only tighten snug, the black rubber gasket should not bulge out when tightened. Also make sure the "o" ring on the semi transparent cover is in place and not broken. If you have questions, write me back. Hope this helps!

Agitator not moving--seems loose

This washer has what we call a bionic agitator and this agitator has a 2 parts:
it has a base and a top section.
IF the BASE IS NOT WORKING AT ALL, please have the transimssion checked and also check the coupling.
IF the BASE is working and the top is NOT
THEN replace the 4 plastic AGITATOR DOGS that are in the agitator.

Remove the CAP from the agitator...remove any plastic cap.
Get a socket wrench and get the socket that removes the bolt.
remove bolt...
PULL the agitator from the base and separate the top from the bottom.
Take the top and turn it upside down to remove the platic interior part that holds these 4 dogs. REMOVE the old dos and replace with new and do a reverse engineeriong putting agitator back.

I have a Kenmore washer that has trouble agitating. I took off the cap on the agitator and tightened the bolt that goes into the agitator. This fixes the problem for a while. Pretty soon the agitator...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

There are two "bolts" for the agitators (assuming that you have the basic split system) The bottom agitator turns back and forth and the top section only turns one way.

The top section (when you remove the cap) usually has a plastic 1/2" square drive bolt.

If you remove the bolt and top section of the agitator, you should see a second 5/16" stud. under the stud is a rubber washer.

The first thing I'd do is pull both parts of the agitator and look at the splines inside of the lower agitator and the splines on the transmission agitator shaft. If either of them is worn / broken, your washer won't agitate. Also make sure that the two pronged "washer" is in place on the transmission agitator shaft and that the clip that holds it in place is fit.

If the splines are OK, I'd carefully put the lower agitator back on. Check the condition of the rubber washer on the stud. Install the stud and do not over-tighten.

Put the top agitator on tighten the 1/2" bolt carefully. Don't over-tighten.

Beyond that, you may be looking at a clutch or transmission problem.

My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Ok, sorry it took so long to write.  You listed the washer as a Calypso, but it didnt look righ, so did some investigative work for you.  What your describing I believe, is that the agitator top half (or the auger as well them) is sitting still and the bottom half if moving.  During the wash cycle, the top half is just sitting still.  If this is wrong, please let me know.  If this is right, you have a sort of simple fix.  Remove the top cap of the auger, pry gently between the cap and the agitator, the plastic cap will come off.  When you remove the cap, you will see another cap (sometimes you do, sometimes you dont) it will be white or dirty clear in color if its there.  You can put your finger on the lips and lift it straight off.  Then you will see a cap with a bolt in the center.  Remove this bolt (7/16" with long extension).  the agitator dogs (Sears part #387091) 387091.jpg.  You should see these under that last cap tha had the bolt in it.  Remove the auger (just slide it up and off), remove the dog holding cap.  Remove the dogs, but be sure you remember the way they go back in.  Next is the tricky part.  Take the cap upside-down, and place it back in the auger.  Quickly turn it back over, making sure the ag dogs dont fall out of position (you will be hating me the first couple time, just keep at it), then, with a long pair of needle nose, place the bolt you removed back in the hole.  Take your extension with socket, hold the bolt firmly, and slide the auger back on to the top of the agitator.  Make sure the locks and stuff fit right between the two.  Tighten the bolt (just snug, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, you will split the cap).  If all goes well and right, you should be able to roll the auger one way and not the other.  If you need any further help, or need someone to yell at when the dogs keep falling out, give me a shout, and we'll help you along.  Good Luck!!!!!     Jim

Agitator-How do you get it off?

(Roper is actually made by Whirlpool) This is simpler than it sounds, just takes time and a few steps. Do you have a fabric softener dispenser that resides on top of the agitator? This dispenser simply snaps onto the top of the agitator. Some styles use a decorative cap. To remove the dispenser, simply grab it and firmly pull up. There is a cap that covers the bolt or nut that holds the agitator in place. To remove the agitator cap, insert a small flat-head screw driver into the seam between the agitator cap and the upper agitator (the part that moves). Use a twisting or prying action to pop the cap off of the agitator. Sometimes there is a little slot where you can insert the screwdriver. Look for it first. There maybe an internal debris cap under this: Inside the agitator you will see a cap with a raised handle. Simply reach into the agitator and twist the cap while pulling up. This will remove the cap and its o-ring. Removing the agitator: When looking into the agitator assembly, you will notice a single nut in the center of the agitator. Use a socket kit or nut driver to remove this bolt or nut from the agitator stud. Don't use plyers, it'll just mess up the nut. With the bolt removed you should be able to remove the agitator by simply pulling up. Twist back and forth CW & CCW when lifting. Some are a 2 piece design, so pulling up will actually remove either the whole agitator assembly or only half of it. If whole assy comes up and you may need to seperate the two for your new parts. Place the Lower Agitator on the floor and stand on the flat lip. Then Pull up to separate the Upper Agitator (mover) from the Lower Agitator. As far as your parts go I'm not sure where they go without seeing it myself. There is a spline or ratch assembly which causes the agitator to move back and forth. They are usually made of plastic and get worn or break. This might be what you are replacing. It's not clear as to what parts they gave you. Good Luck
