I have a iBook g3 mid 2001 edition and don't have an airport card. I tried connecting a LAN cord but it won't fit into the port. Do I need an adapter?

When you say "LAN cord" do you mean an ethernet cable? If so, make sure you aren't trying to put it in the modem port, they look very similar, but the ethernet jack is wider than the modem jack.

SOURCE: Apple Ibook G3 connect internet through Ethernet??

For Linzie:
To connect to Internet with cable:
1. Turn on your computer.
2. From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences, and select the Network icon. Click on the Built-in Ethernet connection, and then click Configure.
3. The Show drop-down menu should be set to Built-in Ethernet.
4. Click on the TCP/IP tab.

  • The Configure: pop-up menu should be set to Using DHCP
  • The DHCP Client ID should be left blank
  • Search Domains should be left blank
  • DNS Servers should be left blank
  • All other fields will be filled in automatically by the DHCP Server. Click Apply Now when you are done.
  • You should note the Ethernet Address for future reference. To do so, click on the Ethernet tab, and then write down the Ethernet ID. You may need this if it is not filled in automatically when you register your computer.
  • Close the Network preference pane.
  • You should be able to get online with Safari.

If you have wireless in the house, turn on the airport in the contol panel then find your network and away you go.

Cannot connect ibook g3 clamshell to internet using airport card

It's probably too old to use the current protocol of your wireless network. The G3 has been abandoned hardware for at least 7-8 years.

I broke the wire that connects to the airport card the little pin is still connected to the airport card what can i do about it????

The wire you broke is the Airport antenna cable. It is a replaceable part, but replacement involves disassembling the display assembly, and is not a job for the inexperienced.

Ibook g3

First of all, you need an Airport card for the iBook G3, chech for example this link; http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Computers-Networking/Original-Airport-Card.html (you should buy one like this: 9deeeda.jpg

, there is a G4 card too, but your iBook doesn't support this one).
Next, install it;

Then, buy a wireless router that uses 802.11b/g or 802.11b. This is very important because your airport card doesn't support 802.11g, and install it, but don't protect your network with a WAP password, your iBook doesn't support this, but use WEP.
Then start your iBook, and click on the Airport icon in the right corner, select your network, type in the password and it will work!

My clamshell ibook shows signal but won't load sites...

Try with Safari or Firefox. If still no pages loading then your Airport is not connecting to the Internet. If you are using a cable modem contact your ISP for assistance.

Internet connection

Depending on what model clamshell you have will determine a few things. One thing to take into considertion is does it have an airport card in it already? I know it does not have USB 2.0 so a dingle is going to be super slow.
The original apple airport cards that went into most of the computers before like 94 or so are the same and will work in your machine too.
Getting to it is a little more of a chore. go to iFixit.com for a detailed directions to install it and they also have items like this for sale. Check on eBay for a known good working pull apple airport card delivered for not more than $75.

The OS mac osx has the drivers installed on it to support this device so does OS9
