SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: fan for amana fridge

Not sure of the description of the fault. If you are saying that the internal fan will not run but that you have put a power supply to it and it has run, it could be a number of possibilities... You described moving the cabinet. It is highly possible that a pipe or part of the refrigeration system has been damaged in the move and caused a loss of gas. If you remove the back panel to expose the evaporator (cold coil), and turn the system on, after 5 to 10 mins you should see a frost build up over the whole of the coil. If you dont then you probably have a leak. Result call a fridge guy. Leaks can vary in cost and is entirely dependent on where the leak is located and how long it takes to find it. If it does freeze the whole coil then you may well have a problem with the defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Both of which need to be intact in order to provide a neutral supply to the fan motor. You can (IF COMPETENT) check that you have resistance across both of these elements. If you have an open circuit on either then that is your problem. (PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE DEFROST THERMOSTAT HAS TO BE BELOW 0'C IN ORDER TO HAVE ZERO RESISTANCE ACROSS IT...I.E. COIL COLD). Hope this is of some help.

SOURCE: 1999 Amana BB20/BRS20 refrigerator not cooling

Take the back cardboard panel off of the back and feel if the compressor is hot. alsocheck to see if the condensor fan is running. if the fan is inop, change it. If the compressor is hot, find a clamp on amp probe and clamp it on one of the wires going to the compressor. If the reading is over 5, you have a bad compressor. You may be able to get by with a RCO410 three in one hardstart.

SOURCE: light is on, fan runs, compressor will not come on

Below bottom grate is a defrost timer. Turn slowly clockwise until you hear compressor start. If this works, replace defrost timer.
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan won't kick on

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

Dave

Testimonial: "Yes, it's dual run capacitor problem. I used a stick to spin the fan blades and it starts to slowly spin and up to normal speed, so motor is good."

Refrigerator not cooling.

No the evaporator fan not running has nothing to do with the compressor. I would suspect that you are freezing up over the evaporator because the fan is not running and when it ices up the air can not flow through properly therefore causing the refrigerator side to get warmer. Replace the fan and you should be fine. Take the back panel inside the freezer off and see if you are all iced up. If you bare then I would replace the fan . You also said the defrost heater did not come on. That will also cause a freeze up. Possible replacement of the defrost heater may be needed. Good Luck!

Where do I start to troubleshoot when it does not cool, the fan is running?

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
If it's iced up really heavy you have an auto defrost problem. Melt the ice with a hairdryer and check the defrost system.

Amana side by side, buzzing, no fan in fridge.

that sound is the relay/overload. it is trying to start the compressor. the problem is either that relay or the compressor itself

Fridge and freezer not getting cold

  • You have 2 fans Make sure your top fan is working ,its located inside the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation .Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.
