If it's on a Ryobi Generator then it should be a real Honda Engine. It's possible that it's a knock off or was replaced with one. If you bought it new from a reputable source then it's real, if it's used or came from an offshore source for a really low price then it's a good possibility that it's a kkoxk off. In all honesty, from my experience they do a great job with the knock off engines & they're usually reliable and last a normal life span similar to a real name brand.
Either way, that mechanical Issue Remains, I'm assuming you're refering to the valve being stuck and basically keeping the engine locked up and not allowing it to the over when attempting to start it. Sounds likely. Did you take the spark plug out and turn it over to see if it'll turn over at all to ensure it's not just totally locked up? My suggestion would be to Remove the valve cover and spark plug so that you can see the valvetrain in action when(if so) it is turning over and observe it to see if your valve theory is correct!
Thanks and good luck my friend, see the infinity below please, have a great day!
Likely is a Ryobi TI.
If it wont crank<?>, its an electrical/starter issue. So does it
5500 has a recoil pull start, does engine turn?
The OHV engine requires periodic valve lash adjustment every 100 hrs or so.
SOURCE: gas in the oil on my honda generator
Your needle/float is stuck, which will allow fuel to flow though the intake...past the piston..and into the crankcase. If has been awhile since you used it, most likely the gas has gummed up the insides of the carb. Otherwise, you may have had something get into the fuel bowl that is keeping the needle from closing. Best way to solve is to remove and clean the carb. Replace fuel filter if needed also.
Hope this helps
SOURCE: hard to start and backfires from muffler when running
Sounds like the timing may be off or maybethe exhaust valve maybe hanging open.
SOURCE: generator hard to start and backfiring
Sound like you've done things in the correct order, tecumseh's are notorious for carb problems if you let as sit in them. Backfiring is timing related (flywheel key) or valve problems. I would take a closer look at the exhaust valve I don't believe it is closing all the way.
SOURCE: Honda EU3000is Generator is running poorly.
Can anyone help me with the eco-trottle switch when I switch it on it seems to run the same idle whether I have it off or on, what could be causing it not to work, is it a bad switch or I am running 89 octane could that be the problem.
Thanks
Alex
