Samsung RS2533SW Side-by-Side, about 10 years old or so. Ice maker tray is not filling with water. I swapped wire leads from door water dispenser valve to ice maker valve, and water flows to fill the tray when door dispenser switch is triggered, so water line to ice maker is not frozen and its valve works. The ice tray still periodically goes through its dump cycle, but of course, there's no ice delivered. Should I go ahead and replace the little control box that has the tray dump motor, switches, etc. at the front of the ice maker assembly, or is there something else I should check first? Before it stopped filling, we occasionally found the bin had run out of ice, and the tray was stuck in the twisted "dump" position, so there's that issue with it already.

Not to plug any company but... if you get Sears to fix it ask them for a Master Protection Agreement on it, that "Warranty" will cover most everything like that where the typical warranties don't. Just a thought if you don't want to "eat getting it fixed" ever again. Thanks for the post to others, it really helps if people know not to wait on such issues.

Check to see that you do have water to the water valve on the fridge. You can disconnect right where the water line goes into the valve on the fridge. Next, if you can, check power at the valve while activating the water dispenser. If you have power at the valve when activating then the water valve is bad. Let me know what you find.

i would recommend changing the water valves as they may be sticking or leaking now you can take the icemaker loose get a small baby bottle short the terminals to cycle water fill catch it with the bottle and see how much water it dumps should be about 4 ounces if the valve leaks will over fill the ice maker over a period of time say the valve is leaking a few drops at a time and the bail arm has the icemaker shut off because its touching ice in the bin but the water just keeps dripping down the fill tube till it runs over did you replace the whole icemaker or just the motor module

I just resolved an issue with my kenmore elite side by side refrigerator icemaker (model 106).
It was expensive because I took the long road to fixing the unit myself.
My problem: No water going up to the freezer water dispenser into the
icemaker but the water in front of the door working just fine.
-first thing i tried was the simplest. The Internet is clogged with
this miracle fix of using a hair dryer to melt the frozen water line
going to the dispenser output. This is highly unlikely for our model
since the water line is protected within the refrigerator frame.
-2nd thing I replaced my water filter (thinking that there wasn't
enough water pressure to trigger the solenoid valve. $40, and still no
luck.
-3rd thing was I tested for voltage going to the solenoid. No voltage
going to solenoid, so I wasted $30 for a new solenoid.....still no
water.
-4th thing was I ordered a new IR sensor and receiver (since the
reciever end is where the relay that sends the voltage to the solenoid
to turn on and allow water to go up to the dispenser).
My IR sender and receiver appeared to be working flakey.
Installed, still no water. $58 BUCKS ON EBAY (EVERYWHERE ELSE $100+)
-I finally removed the freezer front little white door, I TURNED OFF
THE FREEZER SWITCH SO NO VOLTAGE WAS PRESENT, removed the release latch
underneath the freezer unit and disconnected, and removed the freezer
unit to inspect it further.
When I removed the protective white cover that covers the mechanical
wheel, I had a few parts come flying out of it. Turns out that the
wheel accessories were damaged. THERE ARE NO REPAIRABLE PARTS ON THE
FREEZER UNIT. I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $39 BUCKS + $9 SHIPPING! $48
BUCKS, SWAPPED THE HARNESS AND BOTTOM COVER, AND IN 20 MINUTES, I WAS
BACK IN BUSINESS. STARTED MAKING ICE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR!!!!!
when in doubt, replace the freezer unit for $48 bucks! 7 out of 10
times it will fix your problems. All techs replace the IR set at the
same time too which will set you back another $58 bucks.
Good luck! ;)

Good day,
A step by step procedure should resolve your problem. If the dispenser is working, you can skip that step.
First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

Most times it is less expensive to just replace the ice maker module. Here is a helpful video that helps explain everything about the Whirlpool Ice Maker below. If you find this solution helpful please rate my solution, Thanks Sea Breeze
