I bought an external filter from Home Depot for $20.00 that included 3 filter elements. I put it under the sink and used brass fittings to connect the water line for the fridge. My fridge has a filter built in but it costs $44.00 and only filters 6000 gallons.

SOURCE: using without water filter

The effort it would take to eliminate filter would be too much. Just leave filter in place. If new house filter is working right you should never have to replace fridge filter and your water will be double-filtered :)

SOURCE: GE Profile side by side fridge - water dispenser doesn't work

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

SOURCE: dirty water line from filter

Attach flexable rubber line from water bottle, like is used for race bicycle riders,or tape up a hose to a water bottle. Turn off valve at water pipe leadign to line to filter. Remove filter. place a pan to catch water under the machine. Attach A small diameter hose to water line where water exits to glass. With machine turned on and your rubber hose attached turn bottle upside down and squeeze while pressign glass lever. Flush through approximate one quare or until water stream is clear. Their is no pumb ofor flow the line preaure is al that moves the water so backflushing is easy.

SOURCE: I replaced the water filter for my GE GSH25JSTA SS

I have had the same problem with the same model several times in the past. It also happens to me within a few days of replacing the water filter.

In my case, I believe the water line in the freezer door has become frozen. I usually let the freezer thaw for a couple of hours, and my water works again.

I have had constant problems with this model. I would recommend trying to sell your fridge now while it's still running, before the real headaches begin (mine has died 2x in the past six months, and I have not even had it for 2.5 years yet). No more GE's in my house.

I have a GE MWF water filter that is dripping water into the refrigerator. Fridge is about 8 yrs old and have changed many of the MWF water filters. 1st time with this problem.

Many times fines from these filters become dislodged and plug up the filter housing. If you have the bypass plug for the filter, install it and run a couple gallons of water through fridge to flush the system completely. The install the filter again. Make sure none of the water lines feeding fridge are pinched or kinked and valve is on all the way.

My fridge is not make water

I assume that you checked the water is coming out of the 1/4 inch copper /pvc piping that connects to the water line from the refrigerator' s water inlet pipe. In order for water & ice to come out 2 things have to be set correctly.
1. Make sure that a water filter is indeed installed and that it hasn't been there installed for more than 2 years as it could be clogged.

2. make sure that the small shut-off valve in the back of the fridge is turned on!

Good Luck!
