Make sure it is not stuck. Spray some cleaner into the throttle. Make sure the cable is returning all the way.

SOURCE: why is my jeep idling around 1000prms???

The carburettor(s) needs adjusting, there is a screw on it to adjust it, don't ask me the specifics of it as I'm no mechanic. (a grey metal thing attached under a plastic air box!)

SOURCE: rough idle on 1990 saab 900 convertible, 16V

Because the car has adaptive technology, it may take a while to reset and adjust to the new, cleaner and better conditions than those to which it had previously adapted.

Did you change the cap and rotor? if the plugs needed replacement, likely they do too

Possible other causes include:

loose or corroded connections to any electrical component you disturbed (make a checklist and tick them all off as you check them);

mis-reinstallation of any F.I. part disturbed(checklist again)

obstructed water flow through the AIC valve;

improper voltage output from the AIC valve (for LH 2.4 systems, should output 8 volt at idle, dropping as load increases; for LH 2.4.2 system output 7 volt at idle etc; testing between terminals)33 and 17 at disconnected LH connector;

possible problem with MAF.

Hope this helps

I havue a 1998 ford escort sport When I first start it it blowing out white smoke It doesn't smoke anymore while driving My idling is high to 2000 rpms My car okay?

white smoke can be water in the exhaust if you park with the rear end facing up hill it will store water in the cat and take a few miles to clean out. 2000 rpms is a bit fast. should be around 800-900 rpms. it could be a sticking idle control. take it off and give it a good clean out.

Hi. I have an 93 dakota 5.2L v8 auto. each time I let my foot off the accelerator the rpms drop to around 600-800rpm and it shifts into OD at 1600rpm. Is there something wrong with the computer? I just did...

sounds more like you just need to adjust the idle valve screw bring the idle too around 1000 900 rpms hope this helps as for the over drive sounds like sensor is going bad and needs replaced
