I moved you out of computers, to Baldor motor drives.

why not get the free manual and read it first?
Im sure it covers errors.

Did you notice if the screen has been recently going darker if so the lamp has gone.You can check it by removing the lamp and looking at it you will see a grey smoked area or even the lamp mount broken inside the lamp.

Bad Power Supply.

The blinking green light on the power supply, is a diagnostic light that indicates this.

Suggestion is to;
1) Test the Power Supply voltages
Or
2) Replace the Power Supply with a Known to be good, Compatible unit, for a test.

[Compatible:

A) It is an ATX style of power supply.
The style used by 90 percent, of personal computers out there.

The test Power Supply unit should be mounted in the computer, for testing.
The power cables only reach so far, plus it is safer.

B) At least a 250 to 300 Watt unit, for a test unit. More Wattage is okay.

(The power supply that comes with the Pavilion a1310n, is a 300 Watt unit.

The 250 Watt unit stated above is just for a Test.
You are testing to see if the Power Supply is the problem.

More wattage is okay as a computer only uses what it needs.
If you have a 1000 Watt power supply installed, and the computer only needs 100 Watts; the computer only uses 100 watts.

The computer Will Not burn up, by installing a power supply with more Wattage than the original)

C) Correct amount of power cables, and correct kind.

Observe the power cables from the existing power supply, that are plugged into the various hardware components in the computer, and to the motherboard.

The test unit has to have the same power cables, and the correct amount of them.

The above may sound funny. Who has a spare power supply laying around, other than someone really committed to computers?

You may find yourself, or someone you may associate with, has a computer sitting in a closet, basement, attic or garage, that has a working power supply, (And is compatible), and can be used for a test unit.

Test the Voltages.

There are three main Voltages, produced by a personal computer power supply.
(DC. Direct Current)

1) 3.3 Volts (Wires that have Orange insulation)
2) 5 Volts (Red wires)
3) 12 Volts (Yellow wires)

(Two D cell flashlight batteries are 3 Volts {DC)

ANY Black wire is a Ground wire.

Use an economical multimeter to test the Voltages, or a power supply tester.

Multimeter:
Power Supply on.
Positive probe lead (Red) connects to the power wire to be tested.
Negative probe lead (Black) touches ANY Black wire.
(Black insulated wires are Ground wires)

What causes Power Supply failure?

A) Inside of computer is dirty, as well as the inside of the Power Supply.

Computer unplugged from power, (Computer case open, and anti-static precautions observed), a can of compressed air for computers is used on a regular basis as needed, to help prevent this.

There are two cooling components for a SMPS.
(Switched Mode Power Supply)

1) The internal fan
2) The Heatsink's inside

A Heatsink, is an object used to draw heat from whatever hardware component, it is placed against.

A Heatsink is generally just a flat, square piece of metal, that has tall, thin fins protruding from it.

The flat metal base absorbs heat, whereby it is absorbed by the tall thin fins, and radiated away.

In the case of a Power Supply, there is an internal fan which draws air in-between the fins, helping to carry the heat away.

Once the fan blades, (Plus center hub, and surrounding cage), become coated with gunk, and the Heatsink fins become coated, the cooling capacity drops tremendously.

Heat = Wasted Energy.
The Power Supply has to produce more power, to keep up with loss of energy.
Eventually hardware components inside the Power Supply fail.

B) Cheap quality components used in the power supply. (Cheap quality power supply)

IF IT STILL FLASHES 5 TIMES AND MOVES 6-8 INCHES REPLACE RPM SENSOR.

IF IT STILL FLASHES 5 TIMES AND DOESN'T MOVE REPLACE LOGIC BOARD.

  1. Check ur powercord & adapter.
  2. If its working then check the battery, reseat the battery & check.
  3. If available then check with another battery
  4. If no, then remove the battery & switch on the PC in AC mode.
  5. Check if battery charging indication or AC power on indication is glowing. if not then need to change ur motherboard.
  6. If indication is OK, but could not power ON then check ur RAM for any loose connection or dust. clean & reinstall.

Try swapping out the ram 1 at a time, making sure there is one memory piece there while testing. If no! check hard drive for activity.

Disconnect the drive and try to boot to the BIOS (usually with F1, F2 or Delete key). If that doesn't work, try removing all cards from the computer (except a video card if the video port is not on the motherboard). If you can boot this way, try inserting back any removed cards to see what hangs it. Do you hear any beeps when the computer is booting (beep codes)?

If screen and external monitor do not work then the issue lies with the video section of your laptop. The video chip is soldered onto mo bo and there is noway you can replace it if bad. Kiss your laptop sayonara, salvage the hard rive and memory and get yourself a new laptop that works. And avoid HP - their customer service is non existent after warranty runs out. They refer you to a forum or tell you to get another unit - an HP of course!

Nothing comes on picture blank

A few things to try
1.) Check the laptop on an external monitor, do you get a picture
2.) Is there power to the laptop from the battery and the charger? Try to see if the charger indicator lamp is blinking green rather than steady green
3.) Can you hear hard drive / fan noises and are there any lights on the laptop?

If the charger is blinking, indicates that power is not making the circuit, check tightness of charging port, if tight, assume fault on motherboard / blown main fuse

If picture on external monitor and not on laptop, assume backlight on screen dead or possibly the inverter

If no noises from HDD or Fan and No lights on laptop, then fault with motherboard

If you do get fan noises etc, but get BLINKING lights on laptop, assume possible fault with graphics chip, repost with details of blinking lights / colour and specific model of laptop

Older Dell 8200 will not power on. When plugged in the power light blinks amber, and it will not respond to the power switch. If I swap out the cpu for an extra celeron I have lying around the fans power...

To better troubleshoot your issue take a look at the 4 diagnostic lights on the back of your PC, they will give you more information and possible solutions. HERE is the link to what the lights mean on your model PC.
Diagnostic Codes Your computer is equipped with four diagnostic lights, which are labeled "A," "B," "C," and "D" on the back of the computer. Each of the four lights can be yellow, green, or off as shown in the following table. When the computer is turned on or restarted and it is functioning normally, the lights flash during POST. After the computer starts, the lights remain green to signify normal computer operation.
If a malfunction is detected and the computer fails to start, the lights display a code that identifies the problem. Write down the diagnostic code displayed and look it up in the following table.

Drive should have a feature to disconnect from door to allow for manual closing.
