Hitachi plasma 50 TV ...model-P42A202 There's a 2 inch wide black line going right down the middle of my screen

It will depend on the age of the set but the lines are either a bad board or a bad display unit .

try doing white wash feture in options see if u can get it out this way 1st before having to take aprt cheak cables are using old style sumtimes they do get glitch do factory reset thx for using fix ya . nick

If those lines are completely thru top to bottom,you may have a defective plasma panel. That will not be feasable to repair

The tv T-CON board it is dying to causes this problems.This T-CON board sit in the middle at the bottom of the tv plasma screen panel.Try website like Ebay.com to buy a whloe new refurbish T-CON board for the replacement.

You have A buffer board out if the line goes up and down then its the long board going left from right look were the line is and see what board the line lines up on the screen and replace that one

these boards are the closet to the edge of the tv

same process if the line goes across the screen

look for the part number on the board and search with google or go to shopjimmys.com and seach there or call them

hello, your tv has either the lower or the upper buffer defective, worst case scenario is the screen but only a tech with the skills can determine wich one is bad.

Ok if your hitachi TV dies with no power anywhere try this:
Some models have a kill switch under the bottom edge. It's like a gray switch like a small light switch press it back in and voila let there be LIGHT. Saves you at least a $200 trip to repair shop!!

My Hitachi TV Flat screen 42 EDT 4 1A has a one inch black line from the top to the bottom of the
screen on the left side. What or how do I fix it. I did blow it out with a air compressor as suggested by a local repairman.

These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable.  There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered.  There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty.  I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
