SOURCE: macbook recognizes dell projector, but not vice versa

Hello,
Your Macbook should automaticaly find the best resolution, if everything was OK. Is there any HDMI input on the dell projector? What projector is it? Is there is an HDMI input, you can use a HDMI to mini DVI cable: better picture and sound than VGA, and will probably solve your problem

SOURCE: Can you connect a Mac ProBook laptop to a ProxTrax Multiverse?

Hello. There is no "device" needed to connect the units together...You'll need a cable that is"mini display port to vga". In order to connect the projector to the laptop, the cable has to have the special Apple connector which fits into a specific socket on the back of the laptop. The other end is just a standard vga connector which is plugged into the computer input on the projector. Hope I helped you!

SOURCE: How can I hook up MacBook Pro with Optoma 1690

You may need a certain connection (MiniDisplay Port to DVI, or MiniDisplay Port to VGA). If you're connecting to an HDMI-compatible projector, you'll need an adapter. You'll also need an adapter if connecting your MDP (MiniDisplay Port) to a DVI or VGA port. Here are some helpful links:
#1 MDP Adapter Video (YouTube)
#2 MDP to HDMI Adapter (RadioShack)
#3 MDP to VGA Adapter (Apple Store)
#4 MDP to DVI Adapter (Apple Store)

What might be the problem since my macbook pro is connected to the projector through a HDMI to VGA adapter, yet the screen remains black?

Vga and hdmi are different formats. Unless you are using a coverter box that translates the data from one format to another it won't work. Vga is analog and hdmi is digital

Connecting sanyo pro xtrax multiverse projector to a Macbook pro

VGA to HDMI cables don't work. They're a con. VGA is an analogue signal. HDMI is digital. It's not possible to convert from one to the other with just a bit of wire.

Need drivers for epson projector

HiA projector is just a monitor with a lens on the front. It does not need drivers. Just connect it to your video out-put port (all macbook pros have one) Drivers are only needed for projectors that connect by USB.

Macbook pro + IBM m4000

Depends on the connections you have on both. Most MacBook Pros have a DVI connector on the side. If the IBM projector takes that sort of input, then all you need is that cable.
If the IBM projector has a VGA input, then you'll need an adaptor from DVI to VGA.
(VGA input is standard monitor looking connector.)
