What is on the other side of that board? In order to activate a switch like that it usually needs a carbon impregnated or coated silicon button.. Any metal piece would work. Aluminum foil will work.

    There's a thin rubber kind of material behind the board. Someone told me to wet the finger and press the circle and blow dry it... But I didn't understand which circle.

    They are saying put your wet finger on the squiggle lines to act as a switch

SOURCE: Help!!a Black screen appears when I turn on my calculator

http://oakroadsystems.com/math/ti83oops.htm#Lines

ok guys, after about 10 years of not using my ti-83, i put the new batteries in and got the black screen you are all talking about.. came to this site.. saw no solutions.. kept looking.
I've fixed my calculator, but my brain won't tell me exactly how.. but i followed those instructions..
you CAN see what is on your screen if you tilt it under the light ... just fiddle around until you can see faint writing on your screen under the black.
Press window

i have these entries in my calculator
xmin=-10
xmax=10
xscl=1
ymin=-10
ymax=10
yscl=5
xres=2

then go and press second and the down arrow to lighten your screen. it should work.

SOURCE: replacing batteries on a ti-30xa

Hi,

After the batteries are installed you need to reset the board. There is a little reset area that needs to be shorted to get the calculator back to normal. Look closely at the circuit board- You'll see a little circle next to the word reset. Its near the middle of the board. Wet your finger- press it on the circle. It should short.Blow it dry.

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

SOURCE: My calculator wouldn't turn on

Having gone over two months without a response to my query, I assume my suggestion to adjust the contrast solved the problem.

When I press ON, my calculator screen displays a couple random numbers and letters scattered across the screen, including a solid vertical line in the upper right corner. As soon as I push any key, the...

There are three possible solutions here. From what you are describing to me, you say the screen displays a couple of random numbers and letters, including a solid vertical line in the upper right corner, are scattered across the screen? Sounds like you are still in graphing mode. There is nothing wrong with your batteries and changing them won't help because I already know that you didn't change the CR Lithium Battery. This is the "memory card" for the TI-83 Plus. If you don't change that, when you insert new AAA batteries in the calculator, the memory has not been deleted. You probably don't remember, but the calculator remembers the last problem that you did, which was a graphing calculation. Try pressing the "Graph" button and the calculator will go back to function mode. If this doesn't work, try resetting all the memory.
  1. Remove a battery from the battery bay.
  2. Press and hold the CLEAR button while re-installing the battery.
  3. While still pressing the CLEAR key, press and hold down the ON button. If the home screen displays, release the keys.
  4. If the home screen is displayed, press 2nd MEMto display the memory menu.
  5. Select 7:Reset to display the "RAM ARCHIVE ALL" menu.
  6. Press the right arrow twice to display the "ALL" menu.
  7. Select 1:All Memory to display the "RESET MEMORY" menu.
  8. To proceed with the reset, select 2:Reset. The message "MEM cleared" is displayed on the home screen.
If this doesn't work, try changing the CR Lithium Battery. It is located in the battery bay at the top with the cross-head screw in it (It says BACK-UP BATTERY). It tells you what type of battery it takes and how to insert them in. I hope these possible solutions help. If all of them don't, then the only other thing I can think of is that it has some internal part alignment issues or a cold soldering iron blob, on the inside of the calculator. I saw one time on the Internet that cold soldering irons can sometimes make electronics not work properly.

I have changed both the batteries in the ti-83 plus calculator and still the calculator is not coming on. can you tell me what the problem is?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If this doesn't do it, reply to this post and we can go on from there.

Was using the calculator today, then it shut down...will not power-up...the AAA batteries work on other devices

If that doesn't work, try resetting the calculator. Remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries and turn the calculator back on (you may have to adjust the screen contrast as described above).

I just changed the batteries in my calc and now it won't turn on. Is there a reset button?

The calculator is intermittent: Most of the time

Not knowing what to do, I tried anything that could possibly help:

I installed fresh batteries and I pushed the reset button on the back of the calculator (Sharp EL-546L) and finally, it work all right after more than 5 years I own the calculator and where it did work correctly for 5 minutes. I tried the reset button in the past (long time ago) and it didn't work. This time it worked because, maybe, I've used fresh batteries.
