NOTE: The remote control cannot be used during the reset procedure. All necessary buttons to complete the reset process are located on the front panel of the receiver. This procedure is not intended to correct intermittent shut-off symptoms or problems MODEL: HTR-5990 (U.S.A. model/s) (BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, PLEASE READ THE ABOVE NOTES!) 1. Before you start this procedure, locate the MASTER ON/OFF button and the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button on the Front Panel of the unit. 2. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR RECEIVER’S MASTER ON/OFF HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. 3. With the Right Hand, press and hold the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button. With the Left Hand, press the MASTER ON/OFF button and HOLD both buttons for no more than “3” SECONDS, AT THE SAME TIME. SP IMP. * 8 MIN. will appear on the display, which indicates you are in the Diagnostics Mode. 4. Rotate the PROGRAM KNOB to the right (ONCE) until the display reads PRESET *CANCEL. 5. The reset procedure will clear an incorrect setting that might be causing abnormal operation. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-815 speaker wiring

You can hook them up either way, the banana jacks are good for hooking two speakers to one terminal (ie one through the botton, one banana) but the electrical connection is the same either way. Sometimes the banana capable jacks are on speakers A and speakers B, and the surround don't accept banana plugs, your stuck with how your reciever is wired.

SOURCE: speaker wire

Use the same gauge that is supplied for the rear. Probably 24 gauge.Do it with the power off. If the wires touch with the power on the rear output IC will blow. Good Luck

SOURCE: OVERLOAD Message followed by receiver shutting down.

The First step in this would be to Check the Ohms Limit in the Manual and Compair to the Ohms on the Speakers that you are running and the Ones that came with it. Usually when you By the "Kit" the Speakers are Factory Matched with the Reciever. Let me Know!

SOURCE: How to extend speaker cables of Philips MX6050D DVD Home Theater

Go down to your local RadioShack or any place that sells wire of any sorts (heck, even Walmart might carry it now) and ask them for speaker wire. I'm not sure what the impedance of this particular model is, but you should be able to find it printed on the back of the speakers, or in your user's manual. This guide will help you to identify what size speaker wires you need, that way when you go in looking for speaker wire, you'll at least sound like you know what you're doing.

How do you insert a banana plug into a Yamaha Htr 5850

To insert a banana plug into a Yamaha HTR-5850 receiver, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the receiver and unplug it from the power source to avoid any electrical shock.
  2. Locate the speaker binding posts on the back of the receiver. There should be one for each speaker channel, usually labeled with a positive (+) and negative (-) symbol.
  3. Unscrew the binding post's plastic collar by turning it counterclockwise to reveal the hole for the banana plug.
  4. Insert the banana plug into the hole, making sure that the positive plug goes into the positive terminal and the negative plug goes into the negative terminal.
  5. Tighten the plastic collar by turning it clockwise until it is snug against the banana plug. Make sure that the plug is securely connected to the binding post.
  6. Repeat the process for each speaker channel.
  7. Once you have connected all of your speakers, plug in the receiver and turn it on to test your connections.
It's important to note that banana plugs may not be compatible with all speaker binding posts, so be sure to check the specifications of your receiver and speakers before purchasing banana plugs. If you're not comfortable working with electronics or unsure about any of the steps involved in connecting banana plugs to your receiver, it's best to consult a professional or authorized Yamaha dealer for assistance.

How do I get sound to the second speaker zone?

The 5007 has 7 amp channels, so you can set up your main zone to be 5.1 channels and zone 2 to be the remaining 2 channels. Check the manual to see which speaker terminals on the back are connected to which speakers. You will need to go into the setup menu and set the amp for 5.1 + 2 channels. Then you will need to run speaker wires to Zone 2.

I recommend using banana plugs to connect the speaker wires to the 5007. They make a much neater install and eliminate shorts between connections. Sewell Direct makes nice plugs for a very reasonable price.

My Yamaha RX-V563 receiver displays "Check Speaker

Look closely at the rear connector panel of the receiver and look for pieces of stray strand wire that may be touching the speaker A binding post and the receiver chassis. If you are not using strand wire connection to the binding post then check whatever connector type you are using such as banana plug or spade plug for breakage or corrosion, the same goes for the speaker cable itself which isn't always so easy to detect. A few broken strands can cause a problem.
If it is clean, turn off the receiver and disconnect the speaker cable. Check the binding post for tightness; if you can wiggle it then it is broken and needs to be replaced.

Connected 8ohm speakers with monster wire to banana clips.Turned on unit says check speaker wires I then rechecked and turned it on then no sound but I can faintly hear the speakers -50dbs hat gives?

You didn't mention >>>>> if it worked before you added the Monster cables and banana plugs <<<<<.

Nor did you say what you found when you checked the speaker wires. If you found nothing you still need to investigate further.

When you make a change and things go south you have to start UN-making the change to find out what went wrong.

Faint sound overall usually means a Tape Monitor or Mute function is active.

Just clicks no power. Already checked for touching wires and proper cooling. This unit has worked fin in the same location for four years. Any other ideas?

I had a similar 'drop out' problem with my Yamaha RX-V3300.
Problem- Possibly loose speaker connections.
I have banana connections which I unplugged; tightened speaker terminal connections at back of receiver and then reinserted banana speaker connectors- which remedied problem. There is possibly some kind of loose connection either caused by the banana plugs or at speaker connectors at the back of the receiver, which was remedied (i.e. possibly temporarily) by reinserting the banana plugs.
I also previously thought something was wrong with the main on/off power relay which was 'dropping out' and replaced it, but then 'drop out' problem returned a few days later. I reinserted and tightened speaker connectors, which has it working again.

Trying to hook up 2 Hi Fi speakers to a reciever

Red left to Red left speaker
Black left to Black left speaker

then repeat for right speaker

turn on amp play somthing quite to start, check all is working. To check speakers are in phase play a bit louder and stand exactly in middle, bass should be defined and central, it helps to close eyes and listen. If not central and defined change over Red and Black on one side only then listen again with the same test.

Start flat with eq section adjust as you like when listening to something you know and like.

After all is working ok then make it louder.

Sorted!

Every time I turn on my Onkyo receiver it goes in to protect mode.

Please check your speaker cables. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or to the body of receiver.

Are you using banana plugs for connecting speaker or just directly. Some times even a little tiny frayed speaker cable touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough to activate and it could blow a few trasistors in the power output circuit.

Please take out all the speaker cables, unplug your receiver from the mains and try to restart without any cables plugged. If it powers on then you are lucky.

If not and the receiver still goes into protect mode or wont turn on then it possible that there are bad connections on the main board or have some blown transistors. How old is your system? if its still under warranty then you should contact Onkyo immidiately.

Let me know if I can be of any further help. Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!

ERROR 12 - but all the speakers work. why?

The manual lists no error code 12. Check that all speakers are in the correct place in the room and that they are not out of phase (that on each speaker positive is connected to positive on the receiver and negative is to negative). Make sure that the mic is laying flat, and that the room is quiet. If using a sub woofer switch the speakers to small.
