Clock and temperature display not working on my jenn-air oven.
The problem is a failure of your latch mechanism. It's a bad design and should have been warrentied by a company that cared about people more than profits.
Here's the real fix!
1. Go to radio shack and buy the 100uF (microfarad) 35 Volt capacitor that costs $1.49 cents as of fall of 2010.
2. Open your oven panal with the 4-7 screws depending on model. Remember to turn off the circut breaker to your oven for safety's sake.
3. Remove the ribbons holding the panals on, remove the clock display panel.
4. De-solder the C3 capacitor (68uF 35V) capacitor. Note the polarity marks on the capacitor before you remove it. Now solder in the new 100uF 35V capacitor with the correct polarity.
5. Reassemble the oven display by connecting ribbons and putting panal back in screws and all.
6. Have a beer, glass of wine, or at least a pat on the back for saving over 300 bucks in repair bills.
(If you can't solder, meet a neighbor or friend who can and give them a beer or dozen cookies for their help.)
This fix took me one dollar and 50 cents worth of cash and all of 10 minutes of my time from the moment I started unscrewing the display to the moment I put the breaker back on and saw my fix worked.
Cheers! Screw the repair man and his rediculous fixes!
