As far as I can tell the fridge and freezer are on two separate compressers so if one gos down the opposite will still work. As for the red light I can only think if the unit is not working that the defrost is stuck open, or the compresser relay I stuck open, or the compresser is shor, or t-stat is stuck open od there may be a drain pan sensor and it is full and not evaporating.
Sorry that's all I got
Good day, If the lights work, and nothing at all is running, then it is either the defrost timer stuck in defrost, or the main thermostat in the freezer compartment has failed.
Check the timer first. With the freezer control in the freezer compartment set to at least 4 or higher, look for a small hole in the fresh food compartment. It is in the roof (top) of the compartment almost half way back. With a small screw driver, turn the shaft of the timer clockwise at least a 1/4 of a turn. If it starts, then the timer is bad and needs replaced. If no luck then it would be the thermostat in the freezer compartment that failed.
P.S. As with all machines, a broken wire could be the problem but on your model, is extremely rare.
Sounds like a control board issue. When you unplug the unit your are resetting the control board. Then after a while one of the relays on the board is getting stuck again.
my 7yr old roper refrigerator top freezer stopped cooling and freezing but the light was still on with no fans. I dropped the thermostat cover and jumped the thermostat wires,no help . then i removed the wiring harness from the defrost timer and jumped the #1and #4 .She kicked off. I then replaced the defrost timer and it is running fine now
After several hours working and moving the door, I was able to slide open the door. Found out that the ice maker was leaking and the water was in the bottom an it frozen and that was stopping the door to open.
The column between the doors being warm usually indicates that the compressor is running properly but the condenser fan at the bottom rear that cools the condenser and compressor is not running. Remove the cover from the back of the machine and verify this fan is running. It could have stuck from sitting for a period of time or something has gotten stuck in the blade during the move.
I am interested in what the fan inside the freezer is doing. You say 3-4 second pattern, is it running a few seconds then off a few seconds?
Please post back with the exact model number from the decal inside the fridge and I will look it up and see what I can come up with.
