You have one or more defrost components that have failed. Namely defrost heater, defrost timer / control board, and defrost thermostat

Try defrosting the fridge first by switching it off completely and remove any food and leave doors open overnight. Sometimes if items are blocking the vents then the air doesn't circulate and ice builds up around the freezer and on the fans too which causes lack of cold air getting around especially when the air circulation goes to the refrigerator section too. If that fails then call technician.

From your description, you have a bad evaporator fan motor. The part number for a replacement motor is #5304445861.This is not a direct replacement but is more reliable.Remove everything in the freezer, take off the back panels and you will see the fan.
If there is a large frost buildup on the coils and the fan is turning you have a defrost problem. If that is the case, please call me at 334-347-0000 and I will walk you through it.

SOURCE: refridgerator freezer GE

Frost is due to outside air leaking into unit. Check on back wall to see if hole for ice maker fill tube is still plugged. If not and you have no ice maker cover hole with tape. Also look for water or ice build up in bottom of freezer or ref. sections. May have a plugged drain. Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: excessive frost buildup in bottom freezer section of Kenmore refr

There are several reasons this can be happening...

1. The seal on the door may have a tear or may not be seating properly...this allows excess warm air into the freezer compartment and in its effort to remove the same ...frost appears.

2. There is something call a thermistor that is cycled on and off as needed to remove excess frost accumulation and or ice buildup on the evaporator (freezer) coils...it is a heat strip which actually defrost the frost/ice. if this is not working frost will accumulate and eventually it will become Ice......now the remarkable thing about Ice accumulation is that you would think everything would remain cold or get colder ..however in this case the opposite occurs...it insulates the coils and thereby increasing the temperature...put a thermometer...one that is calibrated properly...(calibration can be set by placing a thermometer into a glass of ice water...the temp of a glass of ice water..after a few minutes setting will be exactly 32 degrees)..if the temperature of your refrigerator is gradually rising over the period of a week...you will need to call a tech or replace the thermistor and or trouble shoot other problems that can occur such as..

3. The evaporator fan may be going out although they usually make a high pitched whining noise of a whirring noise before they go out...not always and if they are intermittently cycling off then frost would build up...do you always here a fan running when you open the freezer...if so that is good...fan is working...but it may be cycling off at times when no one is aware.
P.S. the odds of your ice maker causing this are very, very slim...in 35 years in the industry ..I have never had an ice maker cause frost due to water spray...it will almost always result solid sheets of Ice..if it evers does cause a spray....which like I said is rare...lottery ticket type rare :-)

This should lead you in the right direction...if you need help in finding a reputable service company in your area let us know..I hope this has been helpful..if so PLEASE rate me....thank you... .......The Fang

try checking the freezer door seal.
if slight gap anywhere around the door seal drawer fronts will frost up.
warm seal up with hair dryer and ease seal out with your hands..
problem often happens with door reversal.

Back wall ice buildup, fridge not cooling but freezer is fine other than ice. Back wall of refrigerator squishes with sound of water behind it. Have had it unplugged for 24 hours, ice gone.

Anytime you have ice buildup in back of freezer it indicates that the auto defrost mechanism is not working. Check the defrost timer, heater element, defrost thermostat for proper operation.

Appliance Repair Meridian - GE Profile Refrigerator not cooling

If your refrigerator is not getting cold but your freezer is freezing fine there's a good chance the evaporator is frosted up or the evaporator fan isn't working. Pull the back panel from the inside of the freezer and examine the evap coils for heavy frost buildup. If that's the case, there's a heater assembly screwed on at the bottom of the evaporator. Unscrew and ohm it out. This go bad quite regularly for me and can save you money by doing it yourself.

My GE 2008 side by side , the freezer is working but the food storage is not help ?

one of 2 things can be wrong,#1) if theres a heavy frost buildup on the rear inside wall of the freezer compartment then its a defrost issue, which will block air flow to the refrigerator side, take off back panel and test defrost heater and thermostat both on evaporator coil for continuity, thermostat has to be below 32 degrees to test good, most of the time its the hearter on G.E.. #2)if no frost buildup, then check the damper vent door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments and make sure its not stuck or broken shut and can no longer open and close to keep temperatures in refrigerator cold

GE Artica (pss26msrss) both the freezer and the refridgertor will not cool down...

Unplug and manually defrost with a hair drier because that ice you see on back wall of your freezer is a result of frost buildup behind that rear panel. Place all the frozen items in another safe place until the defrost is complete. Here is what your freezer may look like behind that rear panel. Not much cooling in freezer or fresh food section because this frost is blocking airflow.

Refrigerator wont cool

all the cooling comes from the freezer. a fan pushes 20% of the air over into the fresh side.look for something blocking the airflow into fresh side. also check for defrost malfunction(is there frost buildup in the freezer on back wall towards the bottom.

No cooling

Both refrigerator and freezer operate from one system. Air from freezer cools refrigerator. Check back wall of freezer for frost buildup. If frost is evident on the back wall of the freezer it indicates a defrost system problem.

GE Side by Side Refrigerator

Check for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If no frost buildup is noted check that the condenser under the refrigerator behind a removable panel in back is clean and that the fan there operates when the compressor runs.

If you have frost buildup in the freezer section on the back wall you have a defrost system problem. These problems are not related to the cleaning ladies work unless some paper or other item may be stopping the fan from turning.
