The error code E90 is just a group error code. It is indicating a communication error between the two boards in your machine. It does not indicate where the problem may be. A power glitch may have caused the E90 error code or a loose connection.

An easy Fix. Take off the kick panel, 3 screws 1/4 inch. Make sure you have a shop vac ready or a lot of towels as there will be some water. Always disconnect power to washer and dryer, and turn off water to washer. Your filter most likely is clogged with change, screws, lint, and other household stuff that we leave in our pockets! Unscrew the cap on the filter, easy to find, since you have the kick panel off! Take everything out of the filter. Take your shop vac and **** out remaining stuff in hose. Also, **** up any water that has leaked in and around the washer. Screw the cap back on hand tight, put the kick panel back on, turn your water back on, plug it in and there you go! Maybe takes an hour and saves you a repair bill. If you are not comfortable with this procedure then call a maintenance person that is qualified.

SOURCE: F21 ERROR CODE ON MAYTAG FRONT LOAD WASHER M#MHWE500VW
The newer model Maytag washers are manufactured by Whirlpool and have Whirlpool parts. If this is a Maytag Epic model washer, "F21" is a Long Drain error code. This is an indication that you have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system. Most commonly, this means there is something lodged in the drain pump or inlet line running from the wash tub to the pump. There is a white screw off cap on the drain pump that you can remove to inspect the pump impeller and clean. The following link explains:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608588-f21_error_code
Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris and small articles of clothing such as sock or under garments can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.
NOTE: The "SUD" error code can often occur in conjunction with the "F21" error code. This is due to air being detected in the drainage system, which can occur if the pump is not running, or if you have an obstruction BEFORE the pump. You need to remove the inlet hose from the pump to ensure it is also not blocked. Correct your drainage system fault, and the SUD error should go away.
If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.
SOURCE: Kenmore HE2t washer - error code 5d
5d is a definitely a the code for a plugged discharge. We removed the lower access panel and discovered a virtual treasure: $12.50 in quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies, a pen, a pencil, collar stays, 10 bobby-pins, 3 barrettes, a elastic headband, a draw string, a box cutter, 3 washers, 3 broken zipper parts, a elastic waist band. Amazing it took all to trigger a 5d error code. Hope this helps!
