I had a little bolt get under our drum and I had to work on it to get it out. One of the men put a bolt in his pocket and did not remove it.Could even be a small stone.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 - Grinding Noise From Drum

This sounds like the min bearings have gone, open the door and see if there is any play up and down on the drum. if so its the bearing if not it could be something that has fallen from a pocket and got stuck between the metal clothes drum and the oute drum casing. a take apart job i am afraid for both issues.

SOURCE: grinding noise when drum rotates

may be a foreign object trapped in between the inner and outer tub. Major Disassembly required to split the outer tub. May also be the rear bearing in which case back half will have to be replaced.

SOURCE: rear bearing noise when drum rotates

If the rear bearing is bad it will require the replacement of the entire rear tub shell. This is because the bearing is molded into the plastic and cannot be replaced separately (I know, its a stupid design). Sometimes additional damage can occur and the inner spin basket and front shell may also need replaced. In addition, what may seem like a bad rear bearing, might be a broken tub support on the spin basket. In a nutshell, you may have to replace both tub shells and spin basket at a minimum. With parts and labor the repairs could cost $600-$800. If you have no extended warranty or service plan coverage, it may not be worth the effort to repair due to the excessive cost. Sorry...I wish I had better news for you. I hopes this provides you with some answers.

SOURCE: ge dryer makes grinding noise when drum is turning

If youve made sure that its not a roller thats dry or a belt idler pulley that dry, than yes its the motor, and oiling that will only make it worse.

SOURCE: lg dryer - front load - making a grinding noise

I also have the same problem as klrlesimmons, exactly as described. Sounds like sand is rubbing as the drum turns, and also sounds out of balance.

Repairmen replaced upper and lower glides and also the plastic bearing but not the entire bearing assembly.

Spin - loud noise - switched off - drum wont turn

I'm just hazarding a guess here, but it sounds like the bearings have gone (if you try to turn the drum by hand and it sounds noisy and grinding/crunchy then I think it would be the bearings). I'm certainly no expert though.

I have a Zanussi zwf1621s washing machine which is approx 6 yrs old. When spinning today it made a strange noise so i turned the machine off. When I went to restart the machine all the lights came on but...

it really depends on the sound it made, if it was a rumble or a screech it could be the motor, or grinding it could be the bearing or something is in the drum, if it was on a drain cycle it could be the pump or something in the pump blocking/catching on the fins in the pump ( hair can affect the pump). coins can sometimes get to the drum housing and cause damage, ie catch the heating element, this can make the washer not start as the washer has a earthing sensor on the element resistance. hope this helps.

Loud grinding noise when machine operating

Hi
The most common cause of this is the main drum bearing seal has failed and water has washed all the grease out of the drum bearing and knackered it. You will hear a loud roaring noise on the fast spin when this has happened. As it's certainly not a 5-minute-job, it's not economic to have this fault repaired on an older machine if you are paying for the repairs yourself. Get a new machine.
It is fairly unusual for balance weights to come loose as they are usually held tight by locking nuts. I've seen it happen but not very often. Sometimes they break off the drum completely. Symptoms of this are loud knocking noises, the machine attempting to leave the building while on a fast spin and a heavy piece of metal/concrete on the floor under the machine!

Zanussi washer/dryer

Hi, Sorry but this sounds very much like the drums bearings have failed. It's quite a big job and unless the machine is still under warranty maybe uneconomical to repair.

How old is it and which country are you in?

If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills.
If they do not, please hold off on the rating and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D

Washer problems

Hi there!

The problem is probably the main drum bearing at the back.

Isolate power and water supplies.

The top will have to come off,(screws along top edge at back), then the motor mount slackened to remove the belt. Then try rotating the drum by hand, If the noise is still there, check for any items lodged between metal drum, and the outer plastic wash tub. If everything is clear, The noise will be from the rear bearing, which needs to be replaced.

I can assist you further with this.
