Make sure fuel shutoff is set properly and check flow volume into carburetor.
Likely its fuel starved at the carburetor. Given its history, I suspect a stuck carburetor float. Suggest you first try a fuel treatment such as Seafoam. If that doesn't work clean out the carburetor bowl and if that doesn't get it running right, the carb will have be removed for a proper cleaning. Be mindful of cost for carb cleaning as a brand new knock off carburetor is far cheaper than the rebuild kit + labor.

You have a clogged gas cap. Try this: The next time you run your trimmer and it starts to die, loosen the gas cap. It should start running again. It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?! Well, give it try. Clear the breathing holes form debris, or buy a new gas cap.

It sounds as though it is starved for fuel. Check the pinhole vent in the fuel filler cap. if it is plugged, the engine will still draw fuel, until a vacuum is pulled on the tank, resulting in no fuel. If this doesn't fix you. check for adequate fuel at the carb, and wirk either forward or backwards from that point, depending on what you find. I'm betting on the vent!
Try it; it may be just the thing!

Hi an welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.
What has happened is that when the system cavitated the engine drew debris into the Jet orifice in bottom of the carb. You will have to remove the float bowl by removing the 4 mounting scres and the bowl nut.
Once you have the bowl off the Jet / Orifice is located in the very bottom of the carb. It will be recessed about 3/8 inch inside the ventrui. It is BRASS. It can be removed with a flat bladed screwdriver. When you get the jet out hold it up to the light. You should see a pinhole in it. No light.. JET is clogged. Just clean it and reinstall it.
After you have cleaned the jet... take a l;ook at the bowl nut. There are 2 holes in the side of the nut assy that must also be clear. Before you re-install the float bowl turn on the gas and gently lift the float \ensuring that fuel flow stops. Then as you let the float down it should pass fuel. If you do not have feul flow at this point then check the gas tank outlet for obstructions. Once you have established fuel flow reinstall the float bowl, nut and mounting screws.
It should work just fine after this.
A word to the wise.... DO NOT disconnect any linkages unless you have to...! Take a digital picture of the link connections BEFORE you remove them. Thrust me you will be glad you did!
Thanks for using FixYa,
Kelly

01 Fuel tank cap? Loosen it to see if it is plugged.
02 Possible fuel line obstruction? Disconnect at carb to make sure there is adequate fuel flow.

had the same problem with my Honda engined mower. you can't see it easily, but there is a very fine screen in the outlet of the fuel tank that gets blocked and fuel will not pass thru it fast enough to refill carb. remove tank and pour fuel in another container . Use a flexible plastic tube in the outlet or make a small wire hook to penetrate the screen,or preferably, remove it. confirm that fuel flows freely thru it, remove any debris, and reassemble. Change spark plug, add fresh fuel, and test. best of luck!!!! Ray
