SOURCE: How much oil is in an Ariens 5 hp snowblower ?
5 hp should have 20 oz.
When checking,
1) fill the oil to top of threads (if the inspection cap is threaded into the side of the block close to the bottom)
2) if it has a dipstick, wipe the stick as you remove it, re-insert *do not screw it down, just allow it to set on top of dipstick housing.
*note: you cannot overfill unit on an inspection cap
*** you CAN overfill on a dipstick. Any more than 22-24 oz, the engine will blow it out the valve cover breather hole.

SOURCE: I have a 1984 ariens snowblower with a Tecumseh and no spark
Electronic Ignition was introduced on many engines about that time frame. I would need to have model and type numbers from the engine to fully determine that question. However, have spark is still the issue. If the unit has a switch installed on the operator's console, it should be disconnected at the engine so that any safety switches are not masking or causing a problem that is not engine related.
Let's investigate a few basics first.
a) How have you determined that there is no spark?
b) Have you used a type of spark tester?
c) What is the condition of the plug. Brown or dark brown is OK. Black or silver is NOT Ok.
*If you do not have a spark tester,
a) remove the plug, and with it connected to the wire,
b) find a portion of metal around the cylinder that you can ground it on, and then pull the rope.
c) If the plug is black, you may see spark, but you should replace the plug.
*** PLEASE NOTE ; if there is excess fuel in the cylinder or on spark plug, it can catch fire, so be carefull to cover the hole with a heavy rag so that any fuel cannot be exposed to spark plug durning test !!!!
Get back with me on how this issue works out.

Hi, my suggestion to you is to check the oil level with the dipstick to find out what the level is. Start it up and let it run for awhile to warm the oil so it is easier to remove. Once you have the oil out, put it in an empty oil container to give you the right amount of oil to replace. They usually take a bit more than 3/4 of a quart or liter. When you feel there is enough oil, check the level on dipstick and add in small amounts until at right level. Hope this is helpful. Best regards and good luck.
Some times, the seals not sealed yet not being run. Check all your oil and gear oil levels and run it. Hope everything will be ok then.
