Check if the water is full. If full of water drain the water. If not full, check the float switch of the vacuum. Repair or replace the defective part.

SOURCE: the water is staying in carpets and is not being sucked back to the machine

The pick up slot across the front of the unit may be blocked or internal path for the water into the tank. Disconnect from electric and strip down the head and check for fibres/fluff balls - as these are the normal culprits. I am assuming that the suction motor is running?
Good luck

SOURCE: bissell carpet cleaner does not have suction like it should

Try checking the lint filter. It is located in the top clear plastic section (the one with the dial to switch from floor to tool use) and is on the underside. It is a small (1 inch square) red plastic filter with a door on it. Flip open the door and it is probably clogged with hair, carpet fibre, etc.. Clean it out and you should have full suction once again.

Rinse the dirty water tank and lid under water (max 40oC) to remove dirt/debris. Clean the filter screen located at the back of the dirty water tank. To re-fit, tilt the dirty water tank and line the front of the tank up onto the carpet washer. Push back until it clicks into place.

My Hoover carpet cleaner does not **** up water.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Usually on the Hoover’s the have suction when you remove the recovery tank and from there you need to back track to see if there is a clog of some type or obstruction that is blocking the carpet cleaner from picking up the excess water, if you find that it is from the bottom, use and old wire coat hanger and create a hook on the end and that way you can pull out and remove any obstruction that might be in the way in order to get suction again, or the recovery tank might need a new gasket or it’s not sitting on the vacuum correctly. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
