Look in Owners Manual under "Troubleshooting". It should provide things to check. Can't provide any additional help without more info - make & model. If solutions don't fix problem go online and search on "make" Dishwasher "model" "problem". Often it is the result of a defect common to the model that someone has figured out.

The washer will stop during wash cycle and just beep. Sometimes we can turn it off and it will run again. Getting worse ... My washer is a Whirlpool 3.5 cu. ft.

the beeping usually is there to tell you something. It is possible there is not hot water being supplied when you have hot or warm selected Maybe the water is filling to slow maybe the filter i clogged maybe the barrel is out of alignment ( cased but imbalance from previous wash ) is it a top or front loader. what lights flash when the beeping occurs?
To stop the flashing and beeping, the customer may touch the Pause Cancel button. The error code remains stored in the control but once the problem is corrected, it does not effect the operation of the washer. If the failure is something that the customer can correct (such as the water faucets being turned off), the washer will operate normally the next time it is started.
