SOURCE: Craftsman 3x21 plastic front roller needs replacing

Do you know anyone with a metal lathe or that works in a machine shop? If you do ask them if they can make the rollers for you out of metal. Or else find a machine shop and ask them to make you new rollers.

SOURCE: Installing belt on sander

Remove table assembly.
Remove pointer and then slide cover up and out from dust reflector.
Release belt tension by pushing tension lever toward idler drums.
Note: there may be an arrow on the inside of the belt.
The arrow should point in the direction of belt travel to ensure that the splice in the belt will not come apart.
Slide new belt over the drive and idler drums; center belt on drums.
Push tension lever towards drive drum to tension belt.
Hope this helps.

What are the dimensions of the plain bearings on the back roller of a makita 9401 belt sander?

Go online to images. Type the sander model etc and there are parts diagrams shown. Just order the bearings from a Makita agent and save time and trouble.

I would say you have a bearing going out ether on the motor this web address will take you to a good break down of the housing I would say you need a motor bearing it will also give you a parts # but if you have a bearing supplier somewhere ( I look in yellow pages for electrical motor repair) you might find the bearing for a cheaper price just remember to take the old one with you so you are sure to get the same size. I have found bearing and belts for my table saws are the same as for some clothes washers for about 1/2 the price as ordering from sears
good luck

My Model # 362 Belt sander keeps breaking belts after just a few minutes of continued use. Why?

This is usually indicative of someone pushing down on the sander too hard while sanding. The motor in this sander is strong enough to pull the belt around even with too much pressure on the sander. This causes excessive heat to build in the sanding belt and sander shoe which causes the belt to break down prematurly. It's also very hard on the sander's bearings and motor. Use an appropriate sandpaper grit that will do the job without excessive pressure on the worksurface. This will make your sanding belts and sander work longer and cooler.

I have an old craftsman belt sander that needs oil because the engine has started smoking. I bought the right oil, but can't figure out where to put it in. Help?

Many belt sanders have sealed bearings that are packed with grease at the factory. They require no further lubrication. Sleeve bearings should be lubricated with 30 weight oil or an equivalent after each 10 hours of use.

Only about 2 to 3 drops of oil should be applied to each sleeve bearing. Avoid using too much oil. It can get on the work piece or on the belt and the belt will slip.

Broken drive belt on belt sander

My answer comes almost a year after the original question, but I'll post it anyway for those who end up here after a search.
Black & Decker no longer supplies drive belts for the BR400 sander, but you can get a replacement elsewhere if you know what to ask for.
The belt is a synchronous, single-sided "XL" series belt, and mine had 120XL031 printed on it. The belt width is 0.31in or 5/16in or 7.9mm. Its pitch (distance from tooth to tooth) is 0.20in or 1/5in or 5mm. Its total height is 0.09in, and tooth height is 0.045in. It has 60 teeth, making the total length 12in.
I found a replacement at sdp-si.com, part number A 6R 3-060031.
Look here for timing belts (inch), then narrow the search for single-sided, .200 (XL) pitch, 60 grooves, 5/16 width.

Need a repair shop to change internal drive belt i just burned up my third one... small porter belt sander

You do not need a shop as they would do no more than you have and you would keep burning up belts. The reason for belts burning up is the bearings, when they heat up the old grease in them thickens up it binds them up. Replacing them is not cost efective, unless you have the time and knowledge to get to the bearings and work a light machine oil into them without getting any oil on other electrical componants as it will burn the electrial windings, brushes etc. Hope this has helped.
