Remove the pressure regulator plasic cover (usually one screw) and there will be 2 adjustment screws. One is for "cut-in" pressure (to start the compressor when the pressure drops below the set point), the other is for "cut-out" (to stop the compressor once that set point has been reached.
I hope the engine wont spray... if it's a pressure washer thats not spraying the name of the unit would help... but does it build pressure but doesn't spray - check the wand does it even build pressure ??? no - replace pump
Check the reset button on the motor to see if it tripped. The motor may be overheating. Some motors have an internal breaker and they have to cool off before they restart. Also check the pressure switch. Move the switch back and forth ( on and off ) and listen for a click. If it doesn't click with low to no air pressure then the switch is bad.
