Is it a power on light? an illuminating instrument light? Many of these units have gas-filled (Neon) type lights in them and when they start to fail they flicker most times before they go completely. Not to worry though it doesn't mean the unit itself is failing. If it is the light you'll just have to do as my mother did back in the day and lick the tip of your finger and quickly tap the face (Hot Part) If hot it will make a sttt sound.

SOURCE: Steam Iron

The cycling on and off of the steam iron is not abnormal. The themostat in the iron on and off the power supply to the heating element, keeping the temperature of the sole plate constant at the desired temperature. Without this on and off mechanism of the themostat, the sole plate will contiune to heat non-stop till extreme temperature.

My question to the op is how do you know if the iron is not fully heated? I suspect that you misinterpret the cycling of the iron as a defect and assumed that the iron will not fully heat up.

But in fact if the temperature of iron did not raise to expected, then it is a different issue.

SOURCE: I have a Swan S15040 steam generator iron, the

I had same issue , now , once you turn the unit on , you should see displayed 3 steam jets and the flashing standby , turn the dial on the iron to max ,press the steam button on the machine to max steam , leave for a minute or so , now press the steam button on the iron , does it make a noise ? if it does , slightly raise the whole front end of the unit ( easier if you have the iron on the worktop and not on the unit !) for a minute then try and press the steam button on the iron again . I think there is a bit of an issue about the conection between the water tank and the filter . This solved my issues and i do hope it will help you .

SOURCE: my shark steam iron is leaking when ironing

It is quite possible that this is a defect in the shark G1490F... I had the same problem and it was a crack in the water holding tank caused by tightening the two front screws (hidden) that hold the tank to the base... It seemed fine at first but after a full heating it developed a crack where it had been weakened when it was assembled... I suggest returning it or if warranty is up , throw it away and get something else..

SOURCE: I have Tefal protect turbo steam generator iron.

I have had the same problem. Though that the main heating element was bust so stripped the iron part down to test. Discovered that the bimetallic switch on the element had contamination between the contact points (will look blackened). If you have a multimeter you can test by pressing together and looking for continuity. Cleaned with some wire wool and some contact cleaner and sorted. 15mins to diagnose and fix

How do you test a pump on a tefal steam generater

If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber (see below).
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle (see below).
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.
