Tripping the breaker when the compressor tries to start up in your Scotsman Prodigy MV1006 could indicate an electrical overload. It might be due to a faulty compressor, a problem with the wiring, or issues with the breaker itself. It's recommended to have a professional technician inspect and diagnose the problem to ensure safety and proper functioning of the ice machine.

SOURCE: Everything works fine, except when the compressor kicks in the panel breaker trips.

Most likely a short in the compressor electrical components (relay, overload, capacitor) Supco makes a 3 in 1 that you could use. If this works fine, if not "bad compressor".

SOURCE: Compressor won't restart with any pressure in tank

try replacing the capacitor. a bad start capacitor will not let it start under a load.

SOURCE: Compressor causes 20 amp breaker to trip.

If I did the math correctly, 5.5 HP is right at the boarderline of 20 amps, particularly for an older machine that has some deteriorating electronics.

What to do? Can you reconfig the motor to run on 220 Volts??? It would then run on 1/2 the amps.

If you have a dedicated 120 line for this compressor now ... all you have to do to change that to 220 is change the breaker (I presume you have a vacant slot to do this). Find the "neutral" for that wire (white) ane make it the "red" for your compressor line ... (and mark it as such for your future behefit) change the outlet from 110 V 20 A to 220 V 20 A. Both lines will run on #12 with G wire.

If you dont have a slot, you could change one of your standard slots to a "piggy back" remodeling style breaker (has two breakers in one slot). This will free up one slot in your panel for the new 220 (double pole) breaker.

SOURCE: Trips motor circuit breaker at start up (zero air

Most likely the start capacitor is defective or the motor has internal problems. would advise having it checked at a motor repair shop.

Testimonial: "Basic advice kept simple and to the point. I got a response quickly and did so without being forced to pay or trial software. Very Nice service. A+"

SOURCE: compressor starts innitially, then when pressure

the start capacitor on the motor body is weak, the motor needs this component to over come the air pressure when cycling to re-build the low air pressure, change both the start and run capacitors when doing the start because the other run capacitor is just as old and it will soon fail

Scotsman Prodigy Plus 300lb Modular Cube Ice Machine. After one bath has it goes into max harvest time and shuts down?

It is commercial icemaker, you just call for service and claim the cost against your taxes. It may need refrigerant gas. Once the ice is made and it is ready to harvest, the cycle reverses and heat is directed to the grid to drop the ice. Harvest time is set to 3 1/2 minutes, then it trips out.

Scotsman Prodigy ice machine cycles a few times and then quits. Cleaning light is on also...compressor gets very hot.

It needs servicing. They should be done once a year, and especially just before the summer season. Yours has a clogged condenser grill full or greasy dust and fluff. That is causing it to overheat and will cause the compressor to fail.

Cleaning cycle should be done on recommended intervals, plus additional bleaching inside the ice storage bin, especially up in the top where you can't see.

Craftsman compressor will turn on then shuts off abruptly.

it is possible that it is not the compressor but the breaker has reached it's end of life. I'd change it to eliminate that before throwing any more parts at the compressor.
My suggestion anyway.

Compressor started to like zap when it would cycle on, then started to sometimes trip the breaker, and suddenly trips breaker everytime it trys to start

Its trying very hard to tell you its faulty & needs to be replaced... You could wait until it blows up in your face. That way it wont LIKE ZAP anymore

Have a electric carry type 4 gal air compressor. As soon as I turn it on it trips the reset button. After a few trys, then its ok.

This is caused by the "Inrush" current at startup. Overloading the Breaker/Reset until the motors windings "Warms up" and the very low start resistance slightly increases, to where the "Load" will not trip it. You may need a better quality breaker as the one you have is too sensitive. but it should do no real harm, well it will eventually burn out the breaker, eventually I guess.
