It looks like you may need to change your filters. It is advisable to change filters every 3-6 months for optimal use. When replacing your filters, make sure that the unit is turned off and unplugged from the power. Once filters are replaced, turn on your unit then press and hold the filter check indicator button for 3 seconds. The indicator light will blink 3 times and turn off, and reset the filter change timer.

Most likely a lubrication problem. These motors can easily become "gummed up" from use. I normally would remove the motor and hold it with the shaft vertical, I would then apply a few drops or 3in1 motor oil just above the bushing (bearing) and allow gravity to move the oil into the bushing while turning the motor by hand. I would flip the motor over and do the same to the other bushing. This motor should spin quite freely. Do not over oil. once the motor is spinning freely, wipe any excess oil from motor and reassemble and test.

Because this purifier is essentially a filter in a box with a fan pulling/pushing air through, I can only guess that "will not operate" means that the fan isn't moving the air.

1) Is there a fuse that you can check to see if it's blown?
2) Have you tried resetting the Filter Life Indicator button?
3) Is it still within warranty?

The instructions for this unit recommend operating it at MEDIUM level on a long-term basis - - evidently, it isn't designed for continuous high-speed operation. If it was running with a blanket over it, it's conceivable that the fan motor overheated and quit. Unless you are into repairing electric motors (probably not, the best you can do would be to replace it). Try contacting Jarden Consumer Solutions Customer Service at 1-800-546-5637 - - if they won't sell you a motor, you might be able to find a generic one on the Internet, but with a MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) of ~$90 (when new), it's going to be easy to spend more time & money fixing this than it's worth. There are lots more durable purifiers out there, though you'll likely have to pay for it.
