When you turn it off and back on, does it show the needle position correctly on your control panel? If trying to reset the needle position doesn't do it, then you may need to take it for service. Check to make sure it's not set for a stitch design other than straight stitch or that you stored the needle position in Memory.
I suspect your Super needs some degunking internally, the old dust,, fluff and oil dries up inside and goes hard and this can eventually gum up unused parts. You could take off the top and have a look, usually a couple of screws holding down the top blue cover. Use a cotton bud and denatured alcohol and clean up around the needle centring wheel internally, cleaning and some gentle movement may free it up. I finally figured this out. The feed dog switch in the back was not hitting anything when I moved it back and forth. There is a screw on the underside of the machine that I tightened. It seemed to do the trick. Thanks.
