I have my Dad's old Go-Video Combo dvd/vcr #DV2130. The remote didn't work so I foolishly I threw it out not realizing maybe I could've cleaned it. I bought a universal remote. None of the codes work.

My 1st suggestion is to pull the AC power plug from the wall, wait 5 minutes (have a smoke or a coffee) and plug it back in.
Then retry the functions that are giving you grief.

Use the remote's "Code search" feature. It'll run through every code in it's database and when you see the player turn off, you store the code. If non of the codes work, then it's not compatible.
