No prior damage to TV. Audio and video both work, but the screen has been turning black with increasing frequency
Sounds like the fl tube inverter board power is failing. All flat panel screens us thin fluorescent tubes to light the edges of the screen, and when the tubes fail either from age or due to a power issue the screen will go black.
If you can still hear the channel and change channels when it goes black, then it will be the T-Con board that is playing up.

Had the same problem. Was quoted $800 to fix. Searched the internet for 6 months and found this thread on avforums.com http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462873&highlight=black+line+on+plasma&page=4 Read through all the posts. Very simple fix, but you have to have some mechanical inclinations or you can cause more problems than you started with. I was up to 5 of the black lines, but decided to attempt the soldering these guys did and fixed it all for the cost of a soldering iron!

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on. If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.

Ok, here is a bizarro solution that just worked for me. It is a solution to the problem, not a technical fix.
1 Turn unit on
2 Using remote control unit press "DVD" button, upper left.
(When I did this the Audiovox screen appeared)
3 Then using remote control unit press "TV" button, upper left next to DVD button.
(For my unit, this gave me a TV picture)
Strange, huh?

If the power light stays on green, I would look tward a backlight issue. If you can see any image at all then the backlight controler or the backlights are bad. If there is nothing then if could be a power supply overheating or an inverter failure. More than likely as the unit heats up a failed solder connection is loosing contact causing the screen to go black.

that would be your Ysus board and could also be your Zsus board, if you puchased it from costco over 1 1/2 years ago you can take it back for full refund
