The way you wire it will depend on how the other end of your three wires are wired into your heating system. This link http://www51.honeywell.com/pacific/common/documents/DT200_Specifications.pdf
shows the various methods for wiring it and take into account the type of setup you are dealing with. You'll need to find the wiring detail ( last page) that corresponds to your setup..

Yes this can be removed without draining anything. It only mounts on the surface of the hot cylinder tank.

Tou may ahve a two transformer system. On the sub base of the tstat there is tterminals rh and rc they come with a jumper wire between them. Remove jumper. Hook the two wires from your heat to rh and w. Hook the rest of the wires Red rc yellow to y green to g and blue or black to c. Thats it . Keep in touch and I will walk you thru this. Rus

Remove main stat from subbase. On back of main stat there are some screws used for different settings. Screw "C" if for fahrenheit and celcius. Screw in for fahrenheit and out 1 turn for celcius.
