You failed to give the model number and action type. These are essential when attempting a value estimate, as well as the overall condition of the firearm. If it was a collector piece it will not have been fired and having the factory box increases the value of the firearm. The best source for this kind of information is the Blue Book of Firearms Values, by F.P. Fjestad. The local gun store or gunsmith will have this reference available and it is annually updated regarding values. I suggest you see a pro for this kind of thing.

The best way to determine the market is to search the Internet or E-bay for your rifle and see what prices are offered.

SOURCE: I have a Remington rifle which is a 22 caliber

Could use more info, such as markings on the barrel and or breach. The Remington rolling block type single shot goes back to the 1860'S. The first 22 calibers around 1888. The rolling block went through 8 changes. The different types or changes are where various pins and screws are located, size and shape of hammers and triggers. The New Model Number 4, made from 1890 - 1933 came standard in 22 cal. with a 22 1/2 inch Oct. barrel. It will have a small lever on the right side of the breach. Approx 50,000 of these where made between the years noted. You could very well have a model 1, 2 or a model 7, which will be rare if in very good shape as only 1000, No. 7's where made. Tracking the serial number will be hard unless you contact Remington.

SOURCE: I have several serial numbers of guns, and need to use those numbers to get the year they were made and what they are.

Hi cjre:

Check with the manufacturer for each gun to determine exactly what you have. Then you can search such sites as Shotgun News and Gunbroker.com to see what is out there. you could always seek the opinion of a gunsmith and/or gun dealer. if it an antique or collectible, check with firearm auctioneers such as Poulin Auctions and do a comparative search. poulin might be able to help you with a valuation.

good luck"

Your best bet is to contact Rock Island Auctions to determine the age and model of this firearm. Another source of information is the Blue Book Of Firearms Values by F.P. Vjestad, which is updated annually.

When was a Marlin Model 60 22 caliber LR Rifle made with serial number 20380710?

Marlin made millions of these rifles and unless it is a special edition it has no real collector value. To age a firearm you need to write to the manufacturer with the serial and model information. They are required by BATFE to keep these records. Whether they will share that information with you or not is another story. The good news is that most mfr's customer service departments will look it up and provide you a document with the information they have. They can even get as detailed as what distributor or FFL holder they sold it to after manufacture.

What is the year and value of Winchester 1890 22 short in good condition. serial # 644229

Hello, Mike -

1. I took the liberty of re-categorizing your question from Optics (binoculars, gun sights, lenses, etc.) where it landed, to Firearms.

2. I doubt most who volunteer to answer questions on Fixya.com are qualified to provide you a value for your rifle. For one thing, an appraiser would need to look and handle the rifle, which is a major challenge online. :) (Note: My now late father, a licensed auctioneer, used to sell the firearms of his friends who had passed away for their widows and I know he needed to look over all of the firearms in-person.)

3. As for the year your Winchester 1890 was manufactured, you are fortunate in that the Winchester Repeating Arms company provides a PDF document (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software (free) installed) listing the models of firearms and range of serial numbers and what year they were manufactured. This is the link:
http://www.winchesterguns.com/content/dam/winchester-repeating-arms/support/faq/serial-number-reference/Winchester-Manufacture-Dates-by-Year-2012-Scanned-Documents.pdf

Easier than looking through the lists on the Winchester Repeating Arms document, though, the database offered by the website for Antique Guns and Collectible Firearms and Militaria Headquaters
(home page: http://oldguns.net/ ), Winchester Dates of Manufacture:
http://oldguns.net/sn_php/winmods.htm
I think you can figure it out. :)

4. First, your local public library may hold a recent book or two listing estimated values of firearms. One title which is updated regularly is The Blue Book of Gun Values. Note: Using your local public library and its collections represents your taxpayer dollars at work!

Second, read the questions and answers about gun appraisers here:
http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=311759

Second, you can conduct a search using your favorite search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc.) using the following search phrase:
firearms appraiser
OR
firearms appraisals

Third, the International Society of Appraisers provides a database which can be searched. This is the link:
https://www.isa-appraisers.org/find-an-appraiser
Enter the word firearms in the search box.

The American Society of Appraisers offers a similar database:
http://www.appraisers.org/find-an-appraiser
In the ASA Specialty search box (only), choose Firearms.

Personal opinion: To find an appraiser to value your rifle, I suggest you do not go to a firearms dealer, who may opt to purchase your rifle outright, since he / she may have a vested interest in the value of your rifle. Be prepared to pay a fee for an appraisal.

Best wishes.

What model is my Marlin with the sn #10655597

You can get that from the roll mark on the barrel near the left side of the receiver. (opposite the ejection port) It would help to know if it is a semi auto or other type rifle. Serial numbers are not any help in determining model designations. I would guess it to be a variation on the Model 60 semiauto .22 rifle.

Serial#854480 model94 Winchester rifle what year was it made

You can contact the Records Office of Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The Cody Firearms Museum holds the records of 3.5 million individual Winchester firearms and many LC Smith and Marlin firearms.

Information that may be in a record includes the date the gun was received into the warehouse, the configuration of the gun, and the date the gun shipped out. The company to whom the gun was sent may be available for very late Model 1873s and 1886s and most of the run of the Model 21. There are no records for the Models 42, 12, 54, or 70.

There is a charge for Factory Letter information but this and any other questions should be answered by contacting the Records Office.

Winchester 1894/94 Serial Number List Determining date by serialization has become confusing as it has been determined by the staff of the Cody Firearms Museum that previous work by George Madis is incorrect. This is not due to the quality of work performed by Mr. Madis, but by the questionable data provided to him. The following list includes the data held at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody Wyoming (CFM) and the previously understood figures (Madis). It is up to the collector to make the best use of this data that they can.
