Yes, there should be a couple of tiny holes in the brush holders you can push tiny Allen wrenches in to hold brushes back against springs to clear armature to assemble.

SOURCE: I need to remove the chuck on my Makita 6213D drill

I am commenting so this will go out of the active section. When you put the chuck back on just reverse the procedure and hit it a couple times to seat the chuck and reinstall the screw.

SOURCE: removing chuck from Makita 64C1 drill

secure the short end of an allen wrench in the chuck, making sure it is as tight as possoble. Useing a wood or hard rubber mallet strick the long end of the allen wrench so it turns counter-clockwise. This should loosen the chuck from the spindle enough that you can unscrew it by hand.

Makita troubleshooting

The BDF452HW has a carbon brush motor - and they do eat up brushes quickly. The brush set number is CB440 - they are replaceable by removing the 2 screws on the rear cap, the connectors snap over the brush holder - take care not to bend the brush holders when changing, they are just thin brass.
If the tool is 'ticking' or 'grinding' when it spins check the condition of the armature before you install new brushes - the copper commutator should not look burnt or have raised segments - this is also a common repair on this tool. Replacing the armature is a fairly inexpensive and easy fix - you must split the entire clamshell housing to access this - be sure to fit all the components securely back into their slots or you may tear all the fan blades off the armature when you try and run it.

How do you change the brushes, and do you do it.

there should be a back cover that needs to be removed to expose the brush ring, It would seem unusual to have them wear out so quick but take a look anyway.

How to dismantle a makita HP electrical hammer drill, want to replace the brushes

Check out the split drawing on this page.
If your makita does not have any outside accessible brush caps, you need to dismantle it.
lay it on the side, where the side with the screws securing the to halves together is facing up.
Remove all screws (some may be hidden under labels etc.) Gently pry the halves apart, locate the brushes disconnect their leads if any, and remove. Install new brushes and make sure the move freely, and that they are springloaded when in place. Gently rotate the rotor to ensure everything is ok . Reassemble and test drill. If the brushes leaves long streaks of noticeably large sparks, something has gone wrong or the rotor was damaged in the first place, causing excessive wear.

Makita impact driver dead spots

Depends on model you have. There are 2 brushless models - BTD132 (14.4V) and BTD144 (18V) - both have big BL letters on housing. According to your picture, you have BTD140 which has brushes. When you open user manual, you can find section dedicated to changing brushes. In case it does not help, you migh want to check trigger. Juraj
