I've unplugged it for 10 minutes, pressed/held each button and combinations for more than 3 seconds. Only time I hear a double beep is on the Temp Setting, but still remains locked. Thanks for your suggestions
The Kenmore 417.81102003 dryer control lock feature should be toggled on and off if you press and hold the Add Steam button for 5+ seconds. The Add Steam is the second button from the left in the top row of buttons. When the lock is enabled, the LCD screen should show LOC when you attempt to wake the dryer. There is nothing in the manual about a double-beep when the control lock is enabled. Dryers from this manufacturer, Frigidaire, can beep multiple times if you press the buttons too hard.
This is shown on page 10 of the manual which is available from Sears Parts Direct: https://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/user-manuals/41781102000-kenmore-elite-parts-manual . (Note: the final 3 can be ignored. That indicates the cabinet color.) The direct link to the manual is https://c.searspartsdirect.com/mmh/pd_download/lis_pdf/OWNM/1102004L.pdf .
I hope this helps.

The manual for our Maxx WTL6500 says to press and hold the Start/Stop button for 4 seconds. "The child safety lock can be released permanently using the Menu button." In our case that means press Menu 3 times then press Change to set the lock on or off.

FWIW ... the Sears guy came by yesterday. The problem was apparently that the door latch was not operating to the extent that the sensors thought the door was open. He is replacing the latch next week. He adjusted the old one in the mean tiome and it appears to be working fine.
This kind of stunned me, since my wife reported an electric zap and the interior light burned out as the dryer went dead -- so I was sure it would be a fried circuit board -- but, no, a little jiggling of the latch seemed to clear it up....

Just in case there is a pull string with a loop, all plastic under the latch, need to pull the toe panel off and reach up inside the right, unplugged of course until you feel the switch. a pull latch is below the switch incase this happens and hats off to all star/ a serial error or a faulty switch is most of what causes this to start.

Press and hold the "End of Cycle Signal" button to lock or unlock the control panel. The instructions should be printed directly below this button. I hope this helps you.
